Cinco de Mayo, which means 'fifth of may', is an annual celebration in commemoration of the Mexican army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The battle took place during the second French invasion in Mexico and helped slow down the invading force's advance to Mexico city. It lasted from daybreak until early evening and saw the French retreat after they lost nearly 500 soldiers, whereas the Mexican's lost fewer than 100. Weather After two days of sunshine and warm weather, Spain’s meteorology agency Aemet is warning that temperatures will drop by 8 to 10ºC across most of the country. Along the northeast and southeast coasts, temperatures are expected to remain more or less the same. But rain is forecast for the coastal regions in Galicia, and the rest of the country can expect cloudy weather and lower temperatures from Thursday onwards.
