A woman arrested after allegedly trying to open the cockpit door on a Jet2 flight - forcing the RAF to scramble two Typhoon fighter jets into the skies - has been released on bail. Jet2 said there had been an "extremely disruptive passenger" onboard its flight from Stansted to Dalaman in Turkey on Saturday, forcing the aircraft to return to the Essex airport. Witnesses claimed the passenger became "abusive" by swearing and then "trying to hit the staff" onboard. She walked down the aisle and tried to open the cockpit door, fellow passengers claim. The woman was pinned to the floor by cabin crew and passengers, with one traveller even sitting on top of her, it is claimed. Have you been affected by the incident? Email [email protected] The two Typhoon fighter jets caused a sonic boom as they escorted the plane back to Stansted Airport, prompting residents to call 999 as they feared there had been an explosion. EVERYONE knows that “points mean prizes” – but sometimes there are better bargains to be had when you ditch the loyalty card. Hunting for a last-minute trip to Crete, I was thrilled to come across a rather fancy Marriott hotel. The Blue Palace resort and spa on the north east of the Greek island boasts a gym, several restaurants and a private beach. But it was a very luxurious £310 a night on Marriott’s website. That is £2,170 a week — without flights or transfers — making for an eye-watering £3,000 all-in for me and my partner Chris. So it was back to my search. Within half an hour I found the SAME hotel — this time with flights from our local Manchester airport included — with Jet2Holidays. And it cost £1,000 less. It also came with 25kg of luggage, fast-track through security, a free drink on board, a special gift and private transfers to the hotel. The Blue Palace sits between Elounda and the smaller village of … [Read more...] about Package holiday to Crete was a bargain and boasted a private beach and luxury hotel

Anyone who has spent time in the French Alps will have heard of Beaufort. This sleepy town in Haute-Savoie is famed for its eponymous cheese, a fruity (and pricey) twist on gruyère that features heavily on the menu of every mountain restaurant from Morzine to Méribel. Since the middle ages, local farmers have grazed tarine cows on the valley’s high summer pastures, and then churned their milk into giant 45kg rounds that are matured for over six months as part of a carefully guarded, legally protected, tradition. But while almost every skier has tucked into a fragrant fondue or a pungent savoyarde pizza, the source of all that stink remains an overlooked left turn to the majority of winter holidaymakers, who beat a well-worn path to the super resorts of the Three Valleys or Espace Killy. I’ve come to see what we’ve all been missing. At first glance, it’s understandable that tourists head elsewhere: there are few restaurants and shops here, and little in … [Read more...] about Beaufort, the Alps’ best-kept skiing secret
