Spalding High School’s young fundraisers
Year 8 students at Spalding High School have raised hundreds of pounds for charity as part of their Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education programme.Form 8J chose Cancer Research and Dogs Trust, with a ‘Milkshakes and Mocktails’ stall raising around £60. Student Tabitha did a Tetrathlon (1,500m run, swimming for three minutes as far as you can, shooting one handed, seven metres from the target and then riding a cross-country course on your horse, jumping 90cm jumps) which raised £185.Form 8N chose the RSPCA, the local Callum Pite Smile Charity and Agape food and water charity. They raised £125.85 through cake sales, Easter sales and a Halloween sale.Form 8P raised about £240 to support the RSPCA, Cancer Research and The Alzheimer’s Society. Cardiff High School proposes changes to uniform after tights row
A high school is proposing changes to its uniform from September after a row about girls being required to wear tights with skirts during the hot weather. Cardiff High School came under criticism last week for making girls wear tights as temperatures rose to 30C. Now members of the school’s parliament have met with school governors to discuss school uniform and asked whether tights can be made optional from September. This will now be considered, but only if a new, longer skirt is introduced, the school said after the meeting on July 6. In a letter to parents chair of governors Nonny Matthewson asks them to respond to the changes by July 13. Her letter says: “We are (therefore) proposing that the uniform policy be changed to specify a plain black skirt no shorter than one inch above the knee, which can be worn with black tights or black or white socks’. Limavady High School pupils step out for Action MS
Action MS Chief Executive, Ann Walker, visited Limavady High School last week for a special Awards Presentation to thank the pupils for their tremendous efforts on behalf of people with multiple sclerosis. Pupils took part in a Walk for MS at Roe Valley Park and raised a fantastic total of £2,454.20 in aid of Action MS, Northern Ireland’s Multiple Sclerosis Charity.In thanking the pupils Mrs Walker said: “Thanks to the generosity and support of schools like Limavady High School the Walks for MS are at the core of Action MS support services. “Action MS supports people living with multiple sclerosis, their families and carers in Northern Ireland. Headteacher praises fire crews for ‘saving’ Sherburn High School following overnight blaze
The headteacher of a school which was up in flames overnight has thanked the fire service for 'saving' it. Dramatic photos show high school near Leeds engulfed in flames The headteacher of Sherburn High in Sherburn-in-Elmet, Maria Williams, and senior leadership team as well as staff members who live locally joined fire crews in the early hours of the morning as the fire was contained.
