A man who stabbed a nine-year-old boy in the face and hands has been given an indefinite hospital order. The young boy was walking home with his older brother in Peterborough on May 8 last year when Faisal Khan, 26, began following him. Khan overtook the pair before turning back and wielding a knife, grabbing the child and stabbing him about 15 times. The shocking attack continued until neighbours rushed out of their houses to help save him. Khan then fled from the scene and discarded a bloodied knife on a nearby driveway. He was arrested by police but they deemed him not fit to be interviewed. The boy survived but was left with life-changing injuries and permanent scarring. On Friday, Khan was sent to hospital for indefinite treatment instead of prison after he previously admitted attempted murder. He will only be released when he is deemed not to pose any risk to the public. DC Rob Giffen said: ‘I can only imagine the feeling of sheer terror these two boys … [Read more...] about Man who stabbed nine-year-old boy 15 times given hospital order

The heartbroken dad of murdered Logan Mwangi wants to change the law so that estranged parents are told if social services become involved with their biological children. Benjamin Mwangi did not know his five-year-old boy had been placed on the child protection register in the months before he was killed by his mum, stepdad and stepbrother. Mr Mwangi says Logan’s mum Angharad Williamson had stopped him from having contact with his child when she started dating new partner John Cole. He had not seen Logan for around three years when he was found dead in the River Ogmore in Pandy Park, Bridgend, on the morning of July 31 2021. Logan was dumped ‘like fly-tip rubbish’ by John Cole, 40 and his ‘pure evil’ teenage stepson Craig Mulligan. A harrowing trial revealed the little boy suffered more than 50 external cuts and bruises and ‘catastrophic’ internal injuries, which were likened to high-speed road accidents. A child practice review – an investigation into the … [Read more...] about Dad of murdered five-year-old fighting for ‘Logan’s Law’ to protect children
The fossilized skeleton of a T. rex relative that roamed the earth about 76 million years ago will be auctioned in New York this month, Sotheby's announced Tuesday. The Gorgosaurus skeleton will highlight Sotheby's natural history auction on July 28, the auction house said. The Gorgosaurus was an apex carnivore that lived in what is now the western United States and Canada during the late Cretaceous Period. It predated its relative the Tyrannosaurus rex by 10 million years. The specimen being sold was discovered in 2018 in the Judith River Formation near Havre, Montana, Sotheby's said. It measures nearly 10 feet tall and 22 feet long. All of the other known Gorgosaurus skeletons are in museum collections, making this one the only specimen available for private ownership, the auction house said. "In my career, I have had the privilege of handling and selling many exceptional and unique objects, but few have the capacity to inspire wonder and capture imaginations quite like … [Read more...] about 76 million-year-old dinosaur skeleton to be auctioned in New York City
You may not have realised, but there is actually a minimum age to use Snapchat. The photo and video messaging app requires its users to be a minimum of 13 years old to use their app. The regulation is in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which tries to protect children from the deregulated space of the internet where they are not protected from things that want to hurt and take advantage of them. However, they don’t make it very hard to fool, do they? When you open the Snapchat app for the first time and haven’t created an account or username yet, you have to go through the whole process. It is at this juncture that Snapchat asks you for your date of birth. The child setting up the account can choose to be honest and insert their correct birth year, and if they are under 13 the app then redirects the child to SnapKidz. SnapKidz is an app without all the bells and whistles of Snapchat, and exists mainly as a camera app as the … [Read more...] about How old do you have to be to have Snapchat? RENOVATING a home should be a relatively simple process, but sometimes there's legislation dictating what you can and can't do. It is important when buying a house to find out what year it was built and if there is likely to be anything that would hamper your revamp. How old is my house? Having an older house can mean there are restrictions on what renovations you can carry out on the property. For example, if your house is particularly old or in an area of outstanding natural beauty you might not be able to add an extension. An old house generally refers to one over 50 years old. A mother has been criticized after asking whether it's unreasonable to bring two children to a wedding despite the bride and groom insisting they don't want kids there. The mom, thought to be from England, was invited to her cousin's wedding but was told her children were not invited as they wanted a predominantly child-free wedding and didn't class his second cousins as "immediate family." No children other than the groom's daughter and nephew were invited; however, the mother was concerned about leaving her 8-month-old baby at home because she is exclusively breastfed . She explained her baby hasn't been able to wean onto a bottle because she has allergies and is refusing the milk alternative they are giving her. The mom asked the bride and groom whether she could bring her baby and 2-year-old son to the wedding, offering to pay £100 ($121) for the toddler's food, but the couple refused, insisting they had declined other requests from guests to bring their kids. … [Read more...] about “Not your wedding”: Internet divided over mom demanding to bring sick baby

When Richard Williams and his wife Jane, who has cerebral palsy, were left stranded while they waited for assistance to get off a plane in 2019, the 63-year-old knew something needed to be done. The management consultant said the hold-up was a nightmare – and was a bitter end to a lovely trip to Malaysia. Richard, from Derbyshire, explains: ‘Like any of the other passengers, at 5.30am you’re just ready to get home. But we were stuck on the plane for 45 minutes – just us and another man in first class waiting for assistance. ‘While we waited, the crew couldn’t get off. The cleaners couldn’t come on. We were all just waiting. ‘Eventually, I was so fed up I got off the plane, had a look around the airport and found an abandoned wheelchair. I got back on and helped Jane off the plane myself. ‘We’d had a cracking trip, but it was soured. I realised then that it shouldn’t be so difficult. I knew I’d had enough and had to do something about it.’ While the pair love to … [Read more...] about Grandad sick of waiting on planes for help creates carry-on wheelchair for disabled wife
