COVID-19: New West Bank lockdown as Palestinians faces surge of coronavirus cases

· February 28, 2021 ·

A new lockdown has been imposed across the West Bank as Palestinians face a fresh surge of coronavirus cases and a continued wait for a proper vaccine rollout. The Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh announced the 12-day shutdown late on Saturday and blamed it on the struggle to get vaccines delivered to the territory. In the last 24 hours there have been 910 new cases and five deaths in the West Bank. To date Palestinians in the West Bank have received 10,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik vaccine. A separate delivery of 20,000 Russian vaccines has been delivered to the other Palestinian territory, Gaza. Advertisement The Covax scheme, the global initiative to get vaccines to poorer nations, has yet to provide any for Palestinians but a delivery is expected this week. Israel has now vaccinated half of its population but has only provided 2,000 jabs to the West Bank. Beautician ‘stopped feeling like a woman’ after botched £2k hair removal treatment

· February 27, 2021 ·

A beautician who spent £2,200 on a nightmare laser hair removal treatment says the ordeal "stopped her feeling like a woman". Sannah Sohail, 31, visited an established clinic in 2018 but left bitterly disappointed with the results which she says left her looking like she had "hormonal issues". After eight of the costly treatments, Sannah found that not only was her hair "much longer" but that a cyst had developed beneath her skin. If anything the procedure made the hair thicker, Sannah said, and forced her to stop wearing leggings or tight clothing in case it inflamed the area of skin in question. Sannah, who lives in Liverpool city centre, told the Liverpool Echo : "I got a cyst, they offered me to see a doctor who confirmed that it was a cyst. "They told me I'd need to see a private doctor to remove it and promised me to provide it - the cyst removal was never provided." Sannah also claims she wasn't offered after proper care advice to protect her skin effectively … [Read more...] about Beautician ‘stopped feeling like a woman’ after botched £2k hair removal treatment

Budget: Chancellor Rishi Sunak to announce £1.7bn cash injection for vaccine programme

· February 28, 2021 ·

A huge boost in spending on the UK's COVID-19 vaccine programme will be announced by the chancellor in the Budget on Wednesday. Rishi Sunak will pledge a further £1.65bn for jabs, a cash injection hailed by the Treasury as a "shot in the arm" for the vaccine roll-out. The chancellor will also promise to invest a further £33m in vaccine testing and development to protect against future outbreaks and variants. And there will be another £22m for what the government claims will be a "world-leading study" to test the effectiveness of combinations of different vaccines. Figures published by the National Audit Office show the UK has spent £12 billion on its vaccination campaign so far. Advertisement The bill includes £2.9bn paid for 267 million doses of five different vaccines. The UK is believed to have spent between £24 and £28 per dose on the Moderna jab. The coronavirus jab’s most tantalising side effects? It may help fight cancer, chronic pain… and even Alzheimer’s

· February 27, 2021 ·

Joan Wakefield has barely been able to walk for the best part of six months. The 72-year-old from Stockport had a knee replacement in October and has since suffered infections in the scar tissue, causing agonising pain. Then at the beginning of this month she received the first dose of AstraZeneca 's Covid-19 vaccine. 'I woke up the next morning and the leg pain and stiffness was gone,' she says. 'I couldn't believe it. I joked with my partner about whether the vaccine had anything to do with it. Previously, I couldn't even bend my leg. Now I can extend it fully, and even put my shoes and socks on. I'm optimistic I'll be able to return to work sooner, rather than later, now.' It seems ludicrous – a vaccine designed to protect against one virus can, somehow, improve other totally unrelated elements of health. But Joan Wakefield is far from alone. A man receives his Covid-19 vaccinations at Lichfield Cathedral, Staffordshire earlier this week RELATED … [Read more...] about The coronavirus jab’s most tantalising side effects?
