THERE are big differences between sizes used by fashion brands. Yesterday The Sun reported that after years of complaints about skewed sizing, high street favourite H&M will alter the fit of clothes to make them bigger. For example, its current size 12 will become a 10. But it is not the only name that needs to take another look at its measurements. With no universal sizing guide, it is hard to know what fits. Cigdem Tanrioglu, usually a size 12, ventured on to the high street to see how shops measure up with their ranges, giving marks out of five. Three of the stores – New Look, Zara and Primark – could not comment on the findings. But H&M said: “We are taking steps to change our womenswear measurements. MILLIONS of households were hit with a council tax increase last April, taking the average bill in the UK to more than £1,600 a year, an increase of nearly £80. It can be tricky to keep on top of exactly how much tax you should be paying – and if you're in the wrong band, you might be owed money. Here's all you need to know. The council tax band system was introduced in 1991, with each home in the UK assigned a band according to the estimated value of their home at the time. Band A represents the lowest value of a home (properties worth up to £40,000), while band H (I in Wales) represents the highest value (properties worth more than £320,000). You can check your council tax band here, but a £300,000 house in England, for instance, would be "Band G". In Wales it would also be "Band G", while in Scotland a £300,000 would be "Band H". First Lady Melania Trump unveiled her new initiatives for the her husband’s administration – a vow to help kids ‘be best’ that included a stern lecture about appropriate online behavior while the Tweeter in chief sat just feet away from her. The new initiative, which sprawls into three major areas, doesn't back away from an earlier push for 'positive' behavior online. The first lady spoke alone at a podium from the Rose Garden, while her husband was seated in the front row of dignitaries who gathered to hear a rare public event for a private-minded first lady who didn't move to the White House until months into the administration. Opinion PUBLISHED: 07:52 01 April 2018 Neil Haverson Yes, that debonair batsman in 1968 is Neil Haverson, in bat versus the Romford Recorder team. Archant As Neil Haverson prepares to bring out his memoirs, he’s had a bit of explaining to do to Mrs H... Here’s a bit of trivia. I’ve been married to Mrs H for as long as Elizabeth I reigned. When I discovered this startling fact I decided to dig a bit deeper to see if there were any other parallels. I discovered that, by all accounts, Good Queen Bess was “clever and enigmatic”. Her success was put down to her “skill and judgement”. She had “formidable intellect and would quickly settle any argument in her favour”. Hmm…that all has a familiar ring. Maybe Mrs H has Royal blood in her veins. If she has, she has never let on. But there, we all have something in our lives that even those closest to us don’t know. Well, I have just revealed in print a few things from my … [Read more...] about Cringing and cricket: my life before Fortress H
