It's been a long time since anyone other than Ant and Dec won the Best Presenter award at the National Television Awards and this year was no different. It was the duo's 18th consecutive win and now they've been honoured by the Guinness World Records. The popular 43-year-old hosts were all smiles when they were presented with framed plaques that commemorate their record breaking win. The night before they had controversially scooped Best Presenter at the NTAs again, despite Ant taking the best part of a year off as he spent time in rehab for substance and alcohol abuse issues. He was also dragged through the courts on a drink-driving charge, after he crashed his car into another vehicle. After a stressful year, Dec was moved to tears by the win as the pair accepted the award Britain's Got Talent auditions. Set at the Street Machine Summernats 32 car show on January 4, 126 vehicles gathered to pull off the stunt — taking back a record set at the same event in 2015. That attempt saw 107 cars complete the feat, although it was broken at the National Motor Show in Saudi Arabia in September 2017 — when 119 vehicles gathered to claim the crown. The successful record attempt was filmed, with participants lined-up in front of a grandstand filled to the brim with excited fans. Adding to the spectacle, some cars even had tyres fitted that create multi-coloured smoke — creating a rainbow of colours in a huge plume emerging from the stunt. A representative from Guinness World Records was on hand at the event to verify … [Read more...] about Australians reclaim world record for simultaneous burnout
The Welsh town of Harlech is challenging New Zealand’s claim to the steepest street in the world, forcing the city of Dunedin to contemplate losing one of its most famous and lucrative tourist attractions. Baldwin Street in Dunedin draws in thousands of tourists a year since being crowned the steepest street in the world by Guinness World Records, with an exhausting 1:3 gradient. As well as trying to set the Guinness world record for the number of baubles hanging individually from a ceiling, they are trying to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. Punters can pay £1 to guess the number of decorations and the winner with the closest guess will receive a £100 high street voucher. The Mill Street pub has decorated its ceiling with baubles every Christmas since its opening more than two years ago. But this year is bigger and better than ever - and the proceeds have already topped £1,500. Deputy manager Felix August says he has applied to the Guinness World Records and hopes they will send out an adjudicator. The 31-year-old, from Congleton, said: "The number of baubles hanging up is a specific number that relates to the pub that only myself and the manager know. "It took us about three weeks … [Read more...] about Pub’s bid to set a world record with…Christmas baubles!
