The most Boris Johnson thing ever: Is booking a professional photographer to capture the moment you quit the Cabinet, just in time for the Telegraph splash. DRIVING THE DAY HOW IS IT ONLY TUESDAY? Theresa May’s new-look Cabinet meets in Downing Street this morning as questions swirl about her future as prime minister. No. 10 last night concluded a rapid-fire reshuffle, confirming the incendiary briefing to Playbook last week that a “full reshuffle plan” had been drawn up for the Chequers summit was no empty threat. Jeremy Hunt takes his place in one of the great offices of state (and is one step closer to No. 10); Matt Hancock and Dominic Raab have the big jobs they lusted after, and for some reason Jeremy Wright is now culture secretary. But the relative slickness of the Downing Street operation last night … [Read more...] about POLITICO London Playbook, presented by Airbus: New-look Cabinet meets — Merkel in town — Judge dread in D.C.

THE tragic murder of Rhys Jones at that hands of a gang member shocked Britain in 2007. One of the key players was a teenager, named in court simply as Boy M , who helped killer Sean Mercer, 17, tried to cover up his crime. This is his background... Who is Boy M? The identity of the teenager referred to as "Boy M" in court during the Rhys Jones murder trial has never been revealed. In the ITV drama Little Boy Blue, he's been given the pseudonym Jordan "Latch" Olssen (played by Nathan Clark Smith). At the time of the murder, Boy M was just 16 years old and described as emotionally vulnerable. His bedroom was used by the gang led by killer Sean Mercer to cover up Rhys’ murder. Boy M also knew about the revolver that was used in the shooting of Rhys being taken to another boy’s house and hidden. He suffers from ADHD and, when charged, had not left his home for two years, according to The Guardian. He followed the Croxteth Crew gang … [Read more...] about Who is Boy M? PARLIAMENT’S NEWEST MP: Congratulations to Labour’s Janet Daby, who to the surprise of absolutely no one was this morning elected MP for Lewisham East. Daby got just north of 50 percent of the vote in the ultra-safe Labour seat and will be sworn in as parliament’s newest MP next week. But the big news was the strong showing from the Lib Dems, who surged 20 percentage points to land a decent second place in what is a massively pro-Remain part of London. Labour’s majority was slashed, and the Tories lost ground too. As ever, all Brexit is politics, and all politics is Brexit. Results here. DRIVING THE DAY NOTHING HAS CHANGED: After a week of parliamentary horse-trading, which was part thrilling and part skull-crushingly tedious, the … [Read more...] about POLITICO London Playbook: Our newest MP — Nothing has changed — Putin’s World Cup
British horse racing has been given a nasty black eye after a shocking mass brawl broke out at the prestigious Royal Ascot racecourse. In terrible vision uploaded to social media, dozens of punters (male and female) were captured brawling on the street outside the world-famous venue. Onlookers could be seen running for cover as wild haymakers were thrown left, right and centre. Horse owners are now threatening to boycott Royal Ascot after the second shocking brawl in as many weeks. One man was left unconscious in a horrific fight involving up to 50 people last week at Goodwood. “Racetracks need to invest in more robust security measures, which may even mean paying for a more significant police presence,” Syndicate owner Matthew Lincoln told The Guardian. “It might sound drastic but how else are we to deter troublemakers?” Ascot communications manager Ashley Morton-Hunte said track officials would meet with police in coming days to decide what extra security … [Read more...] about British punters disgrace themselves in crazy mass brawl at Royal Ascot
On April 28, I spent an interesting evening not sitting next to Donald Trump. Normally, the president comes to the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner—and sits beside the editor-in-chief of the organization whose reporter is the association’s chair. That honor would have been mine, but sadly Trump, for the second year in a row, declined, making clear his disdain for the established media.I spent most of the evening looking down from the dais at the ranks of American journalism, gathered around their pennanted tables like a slightly drunken medieval army. A 2006 cover of the Economist came to mind.It appeared shortly after I became that magazine’s editor and used fonts from familiar mastheads to spell out, like a ransom demand, “Who killed the newspaper?” For better or worse, the cover rapidly became a staple of PowerPoints at journalism conferences, alongside predictions that “old media” would be swept away by newcomers … [Read more...] about The Future of News
