Emily Maitlis will deliver this year's flagship lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival - her first major address since leaving the BBC earlier this year. The award-winning journalist - who grabbed headlines around the world with her exclusive Prince Andrew interview in 2019 - will speak about the complex world of modern journalism and the challenges of holding power to account. Sky News is the official broadcast partner of this year's Edinburgh TV Festival, and will bring exclusive coverage on mobile, TV and podcast over the three-day event. The festival will be a fully in-person event this year, after several years online due to the pandemic. The James MacTaggart Memorial Lecture - named in honour of the writer, producer and director who died in 1974 - is the centrepiece of the festival, and this year will be exclusively streamed on Sky News. Published 20 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing When the Taliban took power in Afghanistan last August, the lives of many residents were transformed. Over the past year, tens of thousands of Afghans have been evacuated out of the country, most girls' secondary schools have been ordered to close and poverty is rising. But for the first time in more than four decades the country is also no longer engulfed in violence, while previously rampant corruption has been significantly reduced. BBC correspondent Secunder Kermani was in Afghanistan during the takeover, and has been back to catch up with those he met last year. Graeme Souness slams Manchester United star Anthony Martial: ‘You can’t rely on him – he’s dodgy like Paul Pogba’

August 8, 2022 by metro.co.uk

Graeme Souness has slammed Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, claiming he does not have the right mentality to play for the Premier League giants and cannot be relied upon by Erik ten Hag. Martial looked set to start United’s Premier League opener against Brighton on Sunday before pulling up with a muscular injury in training . The Frenchman spent the second-half of last season on loan at Sevilla and that temporary move appeared to pave the way for Martial’s permanent departure from Old Trafford. But Martial impressed Ten Hag in pre-season and the Dutch boss was reportedly planning to start him up top for United against Brighton before the injury setback. Souness is surprised by Ten Hag’s verdict on Martial as the former Liverpool defender does not believe the 26-year-old has the right mindset to flourish for a club like Manchester United. The Sky Sports pundit even compared Martial with ex-United midfielder Paul Pogba and says they are both … [Read more...] about Graeme Souness slams Manchester United star Anthony Martial: ‘You can’t rely on him – he’s dodgy like Paul Pogba’
