The neo-gothic Market Street Power Plant has loomed over central New Orleans since 1905. In its prime, thousands of gallons of water from the Mississippi were pumped through its vast turbines each day, bringing light to the city. Smoke streaming from its twin stacks could be seen from miles away. Later, after the facility was shuttered and fell into ruin, it would stir fitfully to life as a movie set. Tom Cruise shot a scene from Oblivion (2013) in its rusted bowels and it provided a grim backdrop to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. But of all the peculiar events to which the crumbling edifice has borne witness across the decades surely the strangest occurred in May 2010, when eager but unproven... From tiny tap shoes to heavy-weight boots - Steffan Harri has grown into a great leading man of musical theatre. The actor will play the loveable green ogre Shrek, when Shrek The Musical comes to Blackpool next week.“It’s fantastic, a real once in a lifetime opportunity of a role,” he said. “And I’m excited to come to Blackpool.”But he’s no stranger to the show, having toured with the first year of the previous tour, in the ensemble and as understudy for the diminutive Lord Farquaad. But this time out he’s filling some much bigger boots, coming to the tour this time round from a stint in the West End production of Les Miserables, as well as working with the National Theatre Of Wales. Teignmouth trio Muse will be showcasing their recent world tour with a one-off showing of their new film. Drones World Tour will hit cinemas across the UK on Thursday, July 12. The latest in Muse’s history of celebrated and acclaimed live concert films, the Drones World Tour movie promises “never-before-seen special effects, perfectly complimenting the awe inspiring level of creative stage production Muse fans have come to expect, ensuring the ultimate audio / visual sensory experience”. “The symbiosis between humanity and technology has always been something I am interested by,” said frontman Matt Bellamy of the concept. “Drones just seem to be a very interesting modern metaphor for what that represents…You want to leave people with the idea that they ask the question themselves about the role of technology in our lives and whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing.” Other films released by Muse include stadium shows in Rome, … [Read more...] about Which Bristol cinemas are showing the Muse: Drones World Tour movie?
Ludicrously expensive, notoriously critically panned, Green Lantern is widely considered the nadir of superhero films, one so badly made that it nearly killed off the genre altogether. One of the franchises's running gags is the awfulness of Green Lantern. Now Reynolds has revealed that even he hasn't seen Green Lantern all the way through, though, vindicating the masses who rubbished his film. Asked about his feelings on the 2011 film, Reynolds told EW.com: “Look, I’ve never seen the full final version of Green Lantern. I saw a very late stage rough cut of the film. “Now, that isn’t to say that I didn’t want to see it because I didn’t like it. I have movies that have been received pretty well that I haven’t seen, and then I … [Read more...] about Ryan Reynolds: ‘I’ve never seen Green Lantern all the way through’
