Yvonne Wingett Sanchez Arizona Republic Published 10:12 PM EST Nov 7, 2018 She was barely a blip in Arizona's U.S. Senate race, with no rigorous campaign schedule, virtually no press operation and essentially no name identification. She spent less than $1,000 during on her campaign, and was laid off in the process, she wrote on social media. Angela Green's biggest moment of the election cycle came Tuesday night, as early results in the too-close-to-call race rolled in, and it appeared as though she was the only thing standing between a winner. As of Wednesday, Green, the Green Party's candidate, pulled in 38,633 votes, with hundreds of thousands of votes outstanding. That number was double the difference of votes that stood between Republican candidate Martha McSally and Democratic candidate Kyrsten Sinema. It's still unclear whether Green could serve as a spoiler in the still-uncalled race, where tens of millions of dollars have been spent by the … [Read more...] about Did Green Party spoil Kyrsten Sinema’s bid against Martha McSally?
A surge in support for the German Green party has put them in second place, trailing Angela Merkel’s conservatives by just a few points in the polls. Most pollsters now show the Die Grünen just three or four points behind the CDU, having apparently eclipsed the centre-left social democrats as the main opposition in Germany. The party’s current trajectory in the polls suggests every chance it could knock the CDU into second place, if its momentum is sustained. But with fresh elections not scheduled until 2021 it remains to be seen whether the environmentalists will be able to keep their new-found support. The party experienced a similar surge in support on the back of opposition to nuclear power in 2011, with some surveys showing them in second place. That momentum was not sustained until the 2013 federal elections, when the party crashed back to an average result. One survey by pollsters Forsa found the CDU/CSU on 27 per cent, while the Greens were on … [Read more...] about Green party close to overtaking Angela Merkel’s conservatives in polls
Mr Howlin said Labour supporters should seek to ensure there are as many “progressive voices” as possible in both national and local politics. Speaking at the Labour Party’s conference in Dublin tonight, Mr Howlin said: “To maximise the progressive voice, at the next election, I will call on all Labour voters to give their next preferences to progressive candidates, from the Green Party and the Social Democrats, and to progressive independents. “Because we know that only a progressive platform, for economic equality and climate justice, will deliver a New Republic for all our people,” he said. Mr Howlin said on “many issues” Labour agrees with the Green Party, the Social Democrats, and “progressive independents, some from the Labour family”. “They share our analysis. We often vote together. And we have co-operated on new laws and policies." "Last week's (RTE exit) poll showed the combined appeal of our policies. At least … [Read more...] about Brendan Howlin calls for Labour supporters to vote for Green Party and Social Democrats
0 Post a comment Saturday, 3 November 2018 - Environment The leader of the island’s Green Party has questioned the Environment Minister’s suitability for his role. Geoffrey Boot MHK was interviewed by local democracy reporter Ewan Gawne last week and surprised many observers by suggesting that climate change ’may’ happen in the future. His view seemed to contradict that of the more than 90% of scientists who say that man-made climate change is a certainty.Speaking on Manx Radio, Green Party leader Andrew Newton said: ’He [Mr Boot] speaks like a man who hasn’t engaged with any of the arguments and the science.’I struggle to see how he can maintain his position.’Mr Newton said he wanted politicians in the island to lead on climate change issues. He also pointed to the exploration for gas and oil off Maughold Head.’What kind of leadership does that display from our politicians when we have the science that should guide our … [Read more...] about Green Party leader questions Boot’s suitability as Environment Minister
KANYE West, a one-time supporter of Donald Trump could have had a complete change of political allegiance – if his new choice of who to follow on Twitter is anything to go by. The US rapper, 41, who is also known as Ye, has started following the former Green party’s leader in the UK, Caroline Lucas. It would seem the husband of Kim Kardashian and father of three has taken a liking to environmental issues. Although Kanye West has 28.7million followers on the social media site he only follows a select 120 people. Those names include Kendrick Lamar, LeBron James, Wiz Khalifa and Drake. Why he chose to follow the Brighton MP is not clear. West had previously said on Twitter he was “distancing” himself from politics and was focusing on being creative. The environmental, left-leaning MP would be politically opposed to many of President Donald Trump’s right-wing Republican policies. Lucas was appreciative of the follow though and referenced West’s second … [Read more...] about Kanye West bizarrely starts following Green Party MP on Twitter – and nobody knows why
