And the good news for anyone thinking of tearing themselves away from the turkey butties and the telly, is that the weather looks like it's going to be fairly decent on Wednesday. The Met Office is predicting that it's going to be a mild ten degrees in the North West. Although it'll be cloudy it's going to be largely dry. We might even get some sunny spells, although temperatures are not expected to get above nine degrees. The weather is certainly going to be an improvement on today. A single bus snakes through the empty streets of Manchester on Christmas Day, ferrying passengers between the airport and the city centre. The number 43, the only bus running in the region, makes its usual trip along the Wilmslow Road corridor. It's the busiest bus route in Europe, but it falls silent on this one day of the year. Adam Kinsella, from Wythenshawe, is one of only four Stagecoach drivers making the rounds to pick up holidaymakers and partygoers who would otherwise be stranded. And the 34-year-old, who worked as an infantry soldier before becoming a driver six years ago, says he's fine working the shift as his kids are with their mum for the day. "I don't mind working Christmas Day because truthfully, I've got nothing better to do. I'm not gonna see my kids and I've only got my mum and dad here. Families dreaming of a White Christmas this year could be disappointed. Forecasters have revealed a ‘grey and cloudy’ holiday is on the cards in Greater Manchester. Fortunately, rain isn't expected to get in the way of Christmas Day walks and temperatures could be in double figures, so there’s no need to warm yourself by the fire. Dean Hall from the Met Office recommends doing any last minute shopping on Saturday as there could be showers throughout Sunday. Here’s the breakdown of the weather forecasts over the weekend and into Christmas. Saturday Forecasters say the rain will subside in the morning and we should enjoy a mild and dry day to finish our Christmas shopping. At least 50 homeless people died in Greater Manchester last year, according to the first ever official data on the tragedies. Brand new figures issued by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) also show those deaths shot up a massive 66pc across the region in 2017. Greater Manchester recorded the highest numbers nationally outside London. In findings mirrored by the Manchester Evening News' own investigation - The Deaths They Don't Count - the vast majority of people who died were men, with an average age last year of 44. Nationally, the most common cause of death was accident - including drug poisoning - followed by suicide and liver failure. Homeless people now account for 5pc of drugs death nationally, with heroin use the most frequent cause. Houses near Greater Manchester’s top state schools cost £67,000 more than those near poor performing schools. An analysis of Land Registry data shows that families may be paying a massive premium to move near to better performing schools in our area. We list the average house price near Greater Manchester's best - and worst - performing schools further down the page. The data reveals that properties that share the first half of their postcode with the best state schools in Greater Manchester were priced at an average of £204,460 in 2018. That’s schools within the top 20 per cent nationally for average attainment 8 scores. Attainment 8 is part of the new system that was implemented for all schools from 2016.
