Experts warned Brits to stay inside this week to keep safe in the hot weather - and the same advice is in place for our pets. We spoken to Karen Heskin, the head of pets at Pets at Home, who revealed her top tips and tricks to keep your animals cool. She said: “It’s really important to have the right information and products to keep your pets protected, as warm and sunny weather can potentially be dangerous for them. “Dogs, for example, don’t sweat like we do - they cool themselves down by panting. "But on really hot days, panting isn’t effective and they need some help to cool down." Eating normally for five days a week and taking in just 500 calories (600 for a man) for the other two sounds like the perfect diet. But a number of health experts say it’s just a fad. The 5:2 diet is a form of intermittent fasting and claims to promote weight loss and other health benefits, including giving your digestive system a break and reducing the growth hormone that leads to ageing. For the past couple of months she has started being very verbal throughout the night. Is she in pain? Do I need to consider having her put to sleep? Paris — Marine conservationists said Tuesday that a risky operation was planned to try to save a beluga whale stranded for a week in France's Seine river. The beluga — a species that should be found in arctic or subarctic seas — has been monitored for days amid mounting fear over its deteriorating health. It was stranded in the Seine, which runs right through the center of Paris, about 40 miles northwest of the French capital, swimming slowly between two locks. "Today, a major, complex operation will be undertaken that is not without risk but is indispensable for the beluga. This a major first in France," said the Sea Shepherd group in Tuesday a post on its Facebook page . "Today's major operation will consist of transporting the beluga, which is 150km [about 93 miles] from the sea, to a saltwater basin, better adapted to its physiology, so that it can receive treatment and medical follow up," Sea Shepherd said. "We want to determine if what is ailing him and stopping him … [Read more...] about “Last-chance operation” planned to save beluga whale stranded in France’s Seine river
