THE rise of artificial intelligence assistants has been snowballing as tech firms compete with each other to have the best one- but Google may have just won the race. The tech giants have overhauled Google Assistant and given it the ability to hold a two-way conversation and make phone bookings for you without anyone knowing its a robot. Google Assistant is an artificial intelligence app that is found on mobile and smart home devices that can be used to answer questions, search the internet, set alarms, and more. Commuters can now get train information on their phone using just their voice thanks to a new app from Trainline that works with Google Assistant. The firm has created a voice app built into the smart, virtual assistant that is incorporated into Android smartphones and the Assistant app on Apple’s iOS. Trainline says users can ask for journey information on set dates and times between two locations, and then follow up with other questions such as whether or not the journey is off-peak and what the weather is like at their destination. Google has expanded the voice-matching feature in its Google Assistant to support personal Netflix profiles. The Voice Match feature built into the smart assistant is already able to identify individual users when it hears the wake phrase “Hey Google” on a connected device – a Google Home for example. But now users on a multiple profile Netflix account will be able to ask to open streaming service on their TV and see their own personal profile appear, exactly where they left off with the binge-watching. The feature is already in use on Google Home to enable different users to get personalised information and schedules when each individual asks, but this is a notable expansion of the feature to a popular third-party service.
