Baby almost dead hours after mum took him to hospital because he seemed lethargic

· March 2, 2021 ·

A baby boy was left fighting for his life after his mum took him to hospital because he seemed lethargic. Phillippa Berry was forced to watch on helplessly through a surgery room window as baby Veni went into cardiac arrest. His tiny body was lost in a sea of wires as medics fought desperately to save his life, Manchester Evening News reported. Hours earlier Phillipa had sought medical help for her boy due to his tiredness and the fact he was not eating. The 36-year-old realised he had been unwell for several weeks, but at first doctors brushed it off as a viral infection. In hospital medics found the 15-month-old had an issue with his heart and hooked him up to machines so they could shock it. The mother-of-one, from Radcliffe, Bury, broke down in tears as she recalled being sat down with doctors in a private room. They told her Veni may not survive. “Whenever I’m alone with my thoughts I have flashbacks of the doctor telling me that,” she said. “I was just … [Read more...] about Baby almost dead hours after mum took him to hospital because he seemed lethargic

Covid jabs ‘more effective in young people’ and could stop spread ‘almost completely’

· March 2, 2021 ·

Covid-19 vaccines that are being given to Brits should be more effective in younger adults than the elderly and could 'almost completely' stop transmission, a top scientist says. Dr Mary Ramsay, head of immunisation at Public Health England (PHE), said she expects the vaccines to give stronger protection to younger age groups. She said the effect, however, would not be as obvious in the data because younger people are less likely to die or fall ill with coronavirus compared with the oldest age groups. The expert said there were positive signs the jab rollout would cut infection rates across the nation, and she was hopeful that two doses could prevent people passing it on almost completely. Have you been affected by coronavrus? Email your story to [email protected] A Public Health England (PHE) study which shows that use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine dramatically reduces hospital admissions in over 80-year-olds could also see encouraging results for other age … [Read more...] about Covid jabs ‘more effective in young people’ and could stop spread ‘almost completely’

· March 2, 2021 ·

The Isle Of Wight Festival has announced it will go ahead this year, but is moving from June to September following the government's roadmap out of lockdown announcement. It was originally due to run from 17 to 20 June, just ahead of the date of 21 June given by Boris Johnson as the earliest possible to lift all COVID-19 restrictions in England. There are fears many festivals planned even for after that date will still be forced to cancel due to the uncertainty over dates and large-scale events, and on Monday, organisers for rock festival Download announced they were calling it off for a second year. But Isle Of Wight organisers have decided to postpone instead, announcing on Tuesday: "The Isle of Wight Festival is a summer staple and two years without being together on the island is too long. "That's why we're so excited to announce that we're moving the festival to 16 to 19 September 2021.
