I’ll admit I did feel a bit of a fraud behaving like a tourist in a city that I can reach in slightly more than a two-hour drive away from my front door. But working on the principle that world travellers are now coming to Northern Ireland in their droves, I proudly proclaimed “slightly north of Belfast” as my home turf.As it turned out, my husband and I were the only folk from north of the border in our group of around 20 or so visitors to this charming and quirky little museum close to St Stephen’s Green. We had 48 hours to spend in this gloriously vibrant city and decided to pack in some places we hadn’t been to before.Included in our plan was to leave the car at home and, since our stop for the night was The Address at Dublin 1 in Amiens Street just opposite Connolly Station, it couldn’t have worked out better. The property is Dublin’s newest luxury hotel, launched by Brian and Ciara McGettigan, of the Irish family-owned McGettigan Hotel … [Read more...] about Soaking up the atmosphere on a whistlestop trip of Dublin

British holidaymakers are being warned of the ten ways they may unwittingly break the law while driving to their annual getaway this year. Motoring giant LeaseVan.co.uk has researched the little known driving laws that could most affect Brits embarking on long road trips this summer. From eating and drinking while driving to using your mobile phone as a satnav when not fixed to your windscreen or dashboard, these are the most common things drivers do – particularly on long journeys – that are in fact illegal. Surprisingly, the list also includes paying contactless with your phone at a drive through and beeping your horn in anger at other road users. Tim Alcock of LeaseVan.co.uk commented: “While everyone knows that things like breaking the speed limit and driving under the influence of alcohol are not only illegal but incredibly dangerous, most won’t realise that things they do behind the wheel on an almost daily basis are equally as frowned upon. … [Read more...] about Ten ways drivers could break the law on summer road trip
FURIOUS single mum Louise Worrell raised the issue of school holidays this week when she was asked to pay £1,850 for her 13-year-old to go to South Africa. With prices of school trips rocketing, Sun mum Alison Maloney says a proposed trip to LAS VEGAS for her 16-year-old left her wondering who benefits from these trips – the pupils or teachers? My daughter Georgia was studying for her GCSEs when a letter from her state school in Kent about a planned school trip arrived. I opened it with some trepidation, knowing the price of the previous trips she’d been asked to take part in. Her state school was proposing to take a group of 16-year-olds on an American road trip culminating in LAS VEGAS. Not only that, but the cost of the trip would be £2,500 – more than the price … [Read more...] about My 16-year-old’s school wanted us to pay £2.5k for her to go on a trip to Las Vegas
