A DEVASTATED mum has told of her heart-breaking decision to turn off her son’s life support system after he fell victim to knife crime. Lisa said: “We all sat down together to enjoy our Christmas Day dinner. The obscenely paid bosses of the Bank of England and Ofgem have let down Britain at a time we need them most
JUST suck it up, folks! Live off the cash you’ve stuffed under the mattress during lockdown. And don’t ask for a pay rise. This seems to be bungling Bank of England boss Andrew Bailey ’s message to 28million households facing the biggest cost-of-living crisis in most people’s lives. Workers should “think and reflect” before asking for bigger wages to pay the soaring bills, suggested the £575,000-a-year governor. Bailey , an unpopular choice for the top job, is blamed by MPs for being “asleep at the wheel” as inflation took off last year to among the highest in the industrialised world. Alongside him in the dock is £330,000-a-year Ofgem chief Jonathan Brearley who failed to protect consumers from 31 high-risk pop-up “energy companies” which have crashed in the last year, adding £2.6BILLION to fuel bills. Now he has imposed a controversial new energy cap denounced yesterday by money-saving expert Martin Lewis as a “f***ing disgrace” . Wagatha Christie trial: Jamie Vardy says ‘confused’ Wayne Rooney ‘talking nonsense’ in court
Day five recap: Rebekah Vardy stalked me, says Coleen Rooney Wagatha Christie: Our half-time report Why Agatha Christie would have revelled in the trial T he "Wagatha Christie" libel trial has been a showdown between two footballer’s wives . On day six, it was the turn of the footballers themselves. Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy, former England teammates, came face-to-face in the High Court for the first time since the case began , as the evidence turned to the team’s Euro 2016 performance. Mr Rooney told the court that he had been tasked by the England manager, Roy Hodgson, with the “awkward” job of telling Mr Vardy that his wife, Rebekah, was causing “problems and distractions” for the England team due to her love of the limelight. Mr Vardy’s representatives issued a statement which said no such conversation had taken place. It read: “Wayne is talking nonsense.” England gave a lacklustre performance during the 2016 tournament, which saw them knocked out … [Read more...] about Wagatha Christie trial: Jamie Vardy says ‘confused’ Wayne Rooney ‘talking nonsense’ in court
Brexit Diaries 30: Trade wars in the age of Brexit
Donald Trump threw his long dark shadow over Theresa May and her Brexit speech on Friday. The president had just blithely announced a global trade war . In the meantime there has been the usual spiral of escalations and things have taken a turn to the worse. Trump thinks that trade wars are easy to win and has widened the scope to German cars . Many of which are produced in the US, but details have never interested the president. And all this landed the UK prime minister in the unenviable position of having to warn off Donald Trump. Was not free trade, in the beginning, one of the main arguments for Brexit? Britain only needed to be free from the shackles of the EU in order to sign the most glorious trade deals – or so went the reasoning. And the first port of call would be the United States. According to a leaked government paper at least half of this Brexit bonus was supposed to come from a free trade agreement with the United States. As things stand, we wish the Brits the … [Read more...] about Brexit Diaries 30: Trade wars in the age of Brexit

True to form, at the Wagatha Christie trial Wayne Rooney may have just decided the game
The witness box of Court 13 is far from the only box into which Wayne Rooney has made a well-timed late arrival, and the results were typically devastating. Manchester United and England’s record goalscorer was the penultimate witness in his wife’s defence, and though we can’t know yet, it’s quite possible he’s decided the game. In the latter stages of their careers, once-rampaging attackers like Rooney have to learn to play a little bit smarter. Their all-action days are over. They can’t always track back. Instead they must conserve their energy, wait for the moment, and then, wallop! They pounce. Which is exactly what Wayne Rooney did. For five and a half full days – that’s twenty-seven and a half hours of court time – he had sat there, eyes fixed with such piercing intensity on the oak-panelled desk of clerks in front of him that no one would have been surprised had the court stenographer’s pencil levitated suddenly off the desk like a piece of chalk in Matilda … [Read more...] about True to form, at the Wagatha Christie trial Wayne Rooney may have just decided the game
