An aunt has been praised online after admitting she took away her nephew's birthday gift following a family drama. Studies show that up to 74 percent of mothers and 70 percent of fathers show preferential treatment toward one child. Despite research showing that a favorite tends to be the youngest of two children, this aunt claimed her brother's favoritism toward his oldest child has caused a full-on family rift. Although only 10 percent of parents admit to having a favorite child, according to research by YouGov, these parents made their stance extremely clear, the aunt wrote in a popular online post that has sparked intense reactions online. The aunt explained on the popular Subreddit "Am I the A**hole" that her 12-year-old nephew, Oliver (all names have been changed by Newsweek ), is "entitled" and "quite spoilt" by his parents, who show favoritism toward his younger 9-year-old sister, Amy. "Now, I'm usually very strict when the kids are with me for the weekend," the … [Read more...] about Aunt praised after refusing to give “entitled” nephew his birthday present

Why I will never give up The Good Fight to get the best TV shows to air in NZ
James Croot is the editor of Stuff to Watch . Listen to the Stuff To Watch podcast by hitting the Play button below, or find it on podcast apps such as Apple or Spotify . OPINION: Peaky Blinders fans, I feel your pain. Derry Girls lovers, I too am frustrated by a seemingly interminable wait. Both are shows with an army Kiwi admirers desperately waiting for news of when the final episodes of their beloved shows will finally be available on our shores. They were unleashed overseas months ago. While we know that the Irish period comedy is slated to turn up here, like many other territories outside of Great Britain and the Emerald Isle, on Netflix “later this year”, the situation around Peaky is murkier. The concluding sixth season had a blink-and-you’ve-missed-it run on Sky TV’s BBC UKTV channel and Sky Go back in March and April, but failed to show up on Netflix (where the other five seasons are homed) here as expected on June 10. So while countries … [Read more...] about Why I will never give up The Good Fight to get the best TV shows to air in NZ

How to master the lost art of small talk – from an etiquette expert
The weather was perfect, the setting glorious and the newlyweds beamed with happiness. I was thrilled to be a guest at a recent country wedding. The day was going swimmingly until I found myself cornered by an obnoxious guest. His idea of chit-chat with me, a perfect stranger, amounted to making inappropriate comments about the bride's generous proportions, while shovelling canapes into his mouth. It's a situation that will sound horribly familiar to many, especially at this time of year. Small talk — the featherlight conversations we strike up with people we don't know when we are yoked together at gatherings — can be a social minefield. At times, it can be fun and diverting. At others, frankly, it's hell. And I've noticed that, after two years of social distancing, people seem to have forgotten all they ever knew about small talk — or how to extricate themselves seamlessly when it goes wrong. Two years of social distancing have left many struggling with summer party … [Read more...] about How to master the lost art of small talk – from an etiquette expert
Game of Thrones: What’s going on with Melisandre? (Spoilers)
WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR GAME OF THRONES Game of Thrones took a turn for the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on Monday night. Melisandre, the seductive, witchy Red Woman showed her true, naked self to viewers and it was a lot prunier than usual. As she was preparing for bed, the Red Woman disrobed in front of a mirror, which is nothing we haven't seen before. The "N for Nudity" warning at the beginning of just about every episode is usually a good indicator that a pair of perky breasts are about to appear on screen. Instead viewers got a body that's given in to gravity. The nerve!
