Plans for the 2025 Rugby League World Cup in North America appear to be up in the air due to financial issues. The promoter behind the Test match between New Zealand and England in Denver this summer is supposed to be heading up the World Cup but his company still owe significant money to the Kiwis and England, according to reports in Australia. The tournament has already been conditionally awarded and would see games held in the USA and Canada but promoter Jason Moore’s company Moore Sports is believed to have suffered a ‘seven-figure loss’ (Australian Dollars) relating to the Test match which drew a crowd of 20,000 in June. New Zealand Rugby League boss Greg Peters offered the update on the situation which currently has both England and New Zealand reportedly out of pocket by $500,000 (£285,074) each. Huddersfield Town have been linked with a move for AC Milan's Andre Silva, according to the latest press reports from Italy. The Portugeuse player, deemed a natural successor to Cristiano Ronaldo in the international set-up, has been mooted for a move to the Premier League this summer with Wolverhampton Wanderers also reportedly interested. However, Sky Sports now suggest the Terriers have entered the race to sign the exciting 22-year-old as the Italian giants look to balance their books to comply with FIFA Financial Fair Play rules. Simon Woolford says Huddersfield Giants will be “pretty selective” with the type of players they look to sign from the NRL. The new head coach – preparing for the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Catalans Dragons – says his phone was red hot before he left Australia with players asking to be kept in mind.
