Calculations show that they have the edge over Mercedes on the straights at Hockenheim and it was probably the case at Silverstone as well. Estimates put the advantage around a few tenths of a second, which is fairly significant. Where has it come from? Some smart process in their battery apparently. What is it? The 2018 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, which returns to the Formula One calendar for the first time since 2016. It's the eleventh round of the season. Whether it will remain on the calendar is another issue. It's the first race since F1's first ever triple-header and is the fifth race in a six-week period before the traditional summer break in August, ending with Hungary next week. When is it? The race takes place today, so Sunday July 22. What time does it start? The race begins at the new-for-2018 time of 2.10pm BST. What TV channel is it on? As ever, all the coverage is screened live on Sky Sports F1. Channel 4 also have highlights from Hockenheim. Today's race program begins at 12.30pm on Sky with On The Grid coverage from 1.30pm. It used to be long straights and chicanes into the forest - and a real engine breaker of a track - before the tight stadium section, taken on very little downforce. The current circuit is a much better track for racing and spectactors, though, in truth.
