With their lank hair, in their dank sharehouses, wearing a bong-water scented flannel shirt, listening to woozy opening chords of some Nirvana song, there is an image of Gen X fossilised in amber. But of course it’s not like that any more. Gen X, which includes former and current prime ministers Boris Johnson, David Cameron and Scott Morrison, have flown under the radar – as millennials and boomers engage in decades of tedious generational warfare. This invisibility has so far meant that blame for the climate emergency has not been directed at Xers. But that is changing. Good Morning Britain viewers slammed a social media trend dubbed 'sadfishing' after it was discussed on today's programme. British journalist Rebecca Reid appeared on the show to debate 'sadfishing' - a term coined to describe the phenomenon of people sharing their personal problems on Instagram in an apparent bid to get more 'likes' and boost their profile. Rebecca argued famous people oversharing online could have a detrimental effect on young people, as they might not receive the outpouring of love and support if they were to share their own issues publicly. However former Love Island star Montana Brown, 23, hit back, claiming that she shared personal problems in the hope of genuinely helping someone else who might be similarly suffering. Britain's Got Talent's spin-off show, Britain's Got More Talent, has been cancelled after 12 years on the air, as TV bosses plan to focus on attracting younger viewers. The show, hosted by Stephen Mulhern, 42, served as a supplement to the main ITV series and regularly gave viewers a look at some of the more offbeat auditions. For the latest generation of budding entrepreneurs, it seems there is one thing more important than business know-how – a social media profile. Many of this year’s band of hopefuls battling it out in The Apprentice appear to spend as much time posting selfies as sharpening their management skills.
