THE LAST dragon has flown away. The army of undead White Walkers has been defeated. The Iron Throne has melted. After eight seasons “Game of Thrones”, HBO’s biggest-ever show, came to an end on May 19th. The last series caused fury among devoted fans, with more than 1m people signing a petition to have the season redrafted by “more competent” screenwriters. Some, given the chance, might make the producers re-enact the “walk of shame” suffered by Cersei Lannister, a key character, in season five (she was made to pass through a crowd naked while being pelted with rotten fruit). It is hard not to feel some sympathy for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners. As anyone who has read the books can attest, George R.R. Martin constructed an enormous, sprawling story with a bewildering cast of characters and a weird mix of politics, sex, gory violence and magic. It was never going to be easy to tie these elements together to make a … [Read more...] about “Game of Thrones” comes to a controversial end

Game of Thrones may be over but fans can still get their fix thanks to a brand new cruise paying tribute to the hit TV show. Cruise Croatia is launching a GoT themed cruise complete with trips to heaps of the show's filming locations around Croatia, expert guides who offer a plethora of knowledge about the show and even a GoT welcome pack. Kelly Lawler USA TODAY Published 11:49 AM EDT May 20, 2019 Spoiler alert! The following contains plot details from the “Game of Thrones” series finale, Season 8 Episode 6, "The Iron Throne." There's nothing like the anticipation, expectation and dread that surrounds the finale of a beloved TV series. This year two of television's biggest shows of all time – "Game of Thrones" and "The Big Bang Theory" – said goodbye in the same week. Both tried to satisfy in their final hours, but only "Big Bang" truly succeeded. Sometimes, no matter how much you love what came before, a series can miss on its last swing, leaving a bitter taste for years to come. In honor of both series saying goodbye, we ranked the 10 best and five worst finales of all time, from golden classics ("M*A*S*H") to recent travesties ("How I Met Your Mother," and yes, "Thrones"). The best 1. "Six Feet Under" (HBO) "Six Feet Under" was always about … [Read more...] about ‘Game of Thrones’: Worst, best series finales of all time
Kelly Lawler USA TODAY Published 9:34 AM EDT May 16, 2019 "Game of Thrones" has a woman problem. This isn't anything new. Against a backdrop of gratuitous female nudity and frequent rape scenes, "Thrones" has long struggled to fully define the women who play its game. It's had trouble with the men, too (character consistency is one of the writers' biggest weaknesses), but heading into the final episode of the TV juggernaut, its mistreatment of the women who once made the series great might just be remembered as its original sin. As we ready ourselves for 80 minutes tasked with wrapping up a huge and complex mythological world, the series' remaining female characters (and those recently departed) have been ill-served by a mad dash to a finish line with little regard how to get there. After all the smoke has cleared, the moral of "Thrones" might be that women are just too darn crazy. Groundbreaking, I know. In this final season, "Thrones" has wasted … [Read more...] about ‘Game of Thrones’ never learned how to write women characters
Warning: possible spoilers ahead And so here we are: the last ever episode of Game of Thrones approaches. Perhaps the biggest surprise is quite how underwhelmed we all are: the deaths have been feeble, the writing worse and neither villain turned out to be as scary as we hoped. But still, the imaginations of fans have become only more feverish with disappointment, which means that seeing which crazy theories crop up on Reddit has become far more entertaining than season eight itself. Although the leakers have a had a pretty good hit rate so far, there's still much confusion about how the series will end. Here's a handy guide to the most popular theories. Note: not all of the below will come to pass, but some of it could. Don't say we didn't warn you. Daenerys will be killed by Jon She’s his queen (and his aunt/girlfriend) and no, he doesn’t to rule. But that doesn’t mean that Jon “Aegon Targaryen” Snow’s claim to the throne doesn’t … [Read more...] about Game of Thrones finale leaks and theories: how could it end?
