An animated Jurgen Klopp is talking bucket lists. The Liverpool manager's sporting passion extends way beyond the game which has brought him both fame and fortune. “I have to watch hurling in Ireland,” he tells the ECHO. “I also need to go to a Gaelic football match live for sure. “I have this kind of list and seeing the All Blacks playing rugby is on there too, probably a home game. “Cricket? Yeah, I need to experience it, I just don't understand the scores. “I see them constantly flash up on the TV but I have no idea who's in the lead. It could take a while for me to get cricket. Baseball seems a bit easier to count the points at least.” Klopp ticked that one off on a recent trip to Boston during the Reds' pre-season tour of America. It will be three years in October since he arrived at Anfield but, remarkably, it was the first time he had visited the headquarters of owners Fenway Sports Group. Klopp joined the FSG hierarchy of John W Henry, … [Read more...] about Klopp talks bucket lists, Henderson’s role and FSG relationship
It may have been said with tongue somewhat in cheek, but that the subject was even considered worthy of a response spoke volumes. “He has already said for the next season he will remain at PSG, but I will try slowly to convince him to come to Liverpool!” said new Reds midfielder Fabinho. The player in question, of course, was his former Monaco team-mate Kylian Mbappe, a World Cup winner with France and touted as football's next global superstar. Cue much subsequent guffawing from rival supporters – and, it must be said, some Reds followers – at the prospect of the teenager making a move to Anfield. But would it really be so ridiculous? After all, Liverpool were among those monitoring Mbappe's situation at Monaco last summer before being put off by the eye-watering asking price. Mbappe to Anfield, though. It simply wouldn't happen, would it? After all, why would he want to come to Liverpool? Pretty much the same question was being asked mere weeks ago regarding … [Read more...] about Klopp, Alisson and how FSG have changed Liverpool perceptions

The signing of Alisson for a world record fee for a goalkeeper dominates the latest episode of the brilliant Allez Les Rouges podcast. Host Peter Hooton and his guests, Steph Jones, Ste Monaghan and John Nicolson, are all delighted that the Brazilian has been brought in. But, as well as discussing what kind of keeper the Reds are getting, they look at the wider context of Alisson’s arrival, and ask what it says about Jurgen Klopp, FSG’s policy, and the balance of power in the Premier League. Not that they are completely satisfied, though. Yes, as well as being pleased by the arrivals of Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, who they reckon could bring the bit of nark the Reds have been missing, Peter and Co still want Klopp to make at least one more signing in one area in particular. If that happens, though, that may lead to the departure of a player who has returned to pre-season looking as sharp as he has in years. But, the question they ask is, can Klopp trust him? The World … [Read more...] about Change in FSG and one position LFC still need to strengthen
Liverpool’s £65million capture of Alisson makes him Liverpool’s second most expensive signing, pushing Adam Lallana out of the club’s top 10 splashes. This comes in the same summer Fabinho arrived for £39.3million and Naby Keita's near £53million move was finally made official. The trio's arrivals see them shoot towards the upper echelons of the club's biggest ever signings, easily entering the all-time top 10. Indeed, both Alisson and Van Dijk are now the most expensive players in their respective positions. What should be noted, perhaps, is how the top six have all arrived at Anfield over the past 12 months - hinting at a real shift in intent from owners FSG. Alisson's arrival means seven of the top 10 have also arrived during Jurgen Klopp's reign. Here are the club's most expensive signings. Virgil Van Dijk (Southampton, £75million) Liverpool’s record signing was finally confirmed on December 27, 2017, with Liverpool agreeing to pay … [Read more...] about Alisson joins most expensive Liverpool signings & reveals FSG shift
