AS MUCH as most of us would prefer to keep all references to pooh and pee inside the privacy of the bathroom, children often have other ideas. Potty talk can be frustrating for parents who want to keep things nice and clean but it's common for kids to test the boundaries with talk of the mucky stuff. Child development expert and content director at Parent Lab Kristene Geering shared her take on the grubby topic. She explained that we can define "potty talk" as any discussion around private parts and bodily functions. But according to the pro, potty talk is an appropriate part of a child's development. Speaking to Pure Wow , Kristene said: "Potty talk is a very common — and thus, presumably developmentally appropriate — phenomenon that typically begins in preschool-aged kids and can continue for varying lengths of time, and for different reasons." Pensioner wins court case after issued jail threat for ‘playing dominoes too loudly’
A black pensioner has won a court fight to prove his racial equality rights were ignored when he was threatened with jail following complaints that he and his pals play dominoes too loudly. Ernest Theophile, 74, and a group of elderly friends have been gathering at Maida Hill Market Square in north London for the past 12 years. At the square they "chat, socialise and play dominoes, cards and backgammon". Mr Theophile has "visited the area most of his life", Judge Heather Baucher told Central London County Court, and sees the square almost like a second home. But Mr Theophile says killjoy council officers are trying to stifle his right to enjoy the freedom of the square, following complaints from other locals that they are making too much of a racket. Westminster Council obtained an injunction banning amongst other thing "shouting " and "drinking alcohol" in the square which the pals say discriminates against Caribbean culture around the playing of dominoes. Mr … [Read more...] about Pensioner wins court case after issued jail threat for ‘playing dominoes too loudly’
I Went to Disney World
Earlier this month, Walt Disney World began reopening, following almost four months of closure due to the pandemic. I flew to Orlando to experience the magic. The week I arrived, Florida had registered the highest single-day case count of any state thus far. In Orlando’s airport, I felt a vague sense that Floridians considered such statistics a source of secret pride, as if they had set a record for fattest alligator or ugliest serial killer or most senior citizens in a golf cart. The airport where I had started my day, in Connecticut, had required masks, and everyone wore them. Here in Florida, some passengers went totally unmasked, but most wore masks in a defiant fashion, either slung under their chin or with their nostrils gaping out over the top, sucking and spewing potentially viral particles with every breath. A friend who lives a couple of hours away in St. Petersburg likens this latter style to “wearing a condom that covers only the shaft.” Disney World is in Florida only … [Read more...] about I Went to Disney World
Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett back on song
FAIRFAX MEDIA Australian band Midnight Oil have announced they will reform for a world tour in 2017. Peter Garrett says writing his new solo album was "an almost unrecognisable experience" and a reaction to living in a "crazy world". The one-time Midnight Oil frontman – who transplanted his unmistakable giant punkish frame from the stage and into the raging cauldron of Aussie politics back in 2002 – has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks after revealing that he'd started writing music again while completing last year's memoir Big Blue Sky . And as the man synonymous with delivering classic, hard-hitting Midnight Oil tracks such as Beds Are Burning, Power and the Passion and US Forces , any new output from Garrett is sure to make waves not only either side of the Tasman, but worldwide.
