Author: Mariam Levina France’s Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs organized a media tour for the Armenian journalists. Armenian News-NEWS.am is grateful to the Embassy of France in Armenia and French Foreign Affairs Ministry for a chance to participate in a rich, interesting and informative program, and expresses special thanks to the representative of the department of public relations and media Helene Stein for the program and warm attitude. Fake news and manipulation of information Fake news and manipulation of information was a theme of the media tour – a timely topic for France, Armenia and any other country, even world community on the whole, given the current situation over fake news. I’d just make a reservation, the question is quite delicate - although we often say that the information provided by the media must be objective, in my personal opinion, absolute objectivity cannot exist because every journalist is first and foremost a person with … [Read more...] about Fight against fake news and manipulation of information, French experience

Children as young as 12 among 153 arrested for rioting at one French high school
Children as young as 12 were arrested for rioting at just one high school in France as the country’s law and order crisis continued. Footage shows youngsters from the Lycée Saint-Exupéry, in Mante-la-Jolie - where 153 were arrested - lined up kneeling on the floor with their hands behind their head. Others have their faces pressed up against a wall as police in riot gear guard the huge group. Some of the young hooded rioters were caught with heavy clubs, baseball bats, and teargas cannisters. Officers can be heard barking out instructions after telling the children that they all faced violent disorder charges including ‘participation in an armed crowd’. All had allegedly taken part in a nationwide day of action aimed at blockading schools and colleges in opposition to reform of the education system, and in support of so-called Yellow Vest demonstrators. The Yellow Vests are named after the high visibility jackets all motorists have to carry in France, and … [Read more...] about Children as young as 12 among 153 arrested for rioting at one French high school
French weekly magazines review 26 August 2018
A picture is said to be worth a thousand words and the same might be said of the witty, iconoclastic cartoons that often grace the cover of left-leaning Marianne. This week's image is of a small, grimacing man bent double beneath the weight of an enormous file-filled satchel strapped to his back. Like a picture, a cartoon usually needs a few words to help us understand the who, the what, the when and the where. The words are "Bonne Rentrée Jupiter!", which translates as "Have a great return to work, Jupiter!" "Jupiter" is the nickname the French press attaches to President Emmanuel Macron, who once said he wanted to rule as a “Jupiter” - the king of gods in ancient Roman mythology - operating above the political hurly-burly as he delivers thunderbolt judgements and instructions. Macron doesn't look at all godlike in the cartoon and there are succinct clues on the cover on what's inside the satchel that's making him stagger beneath its weight. Marianne summarises his … [Read more...] about French weekly magazines review 26 August 2018

French director abandons filming after pilot disturbs country’s only wild flock of flamingos
A director famous for wildlife films is facing legal action after an aircraft scouting locations terrified France’s only colony of wild flamingos, causing hundreds of the birds to abandon their eggs. Nicolas Vanier, the filmmaker, said he was horrified that the pilot disregarded instructions to avoid the protected nesting areas in the Camargue, a wetlands region in southern France that is home to the colony of pink flamingos. France Nature Environnement, a conservation group, has lodged a legal complaint for intentional disturbance of a protected species with public prosecutors. They will decide whether to press charges against the company that organised the flights or Mr Vanier or the production company, Radar Films. Mr Vanier said he did not believe he could be “held responsible”. Radar Films declined to comment. Olivier Gourbinot of France Nature Environnement said: “There are only 4,500 pairs of flamingos in France and 500 were disturbed. Each … [Read more...] about French director abandons filming after pilot disturbs country’s only wild flock of flamingos
