Liverpool lose five league games in a row at home for first time as Chelsea climb into top four

· March 4, 2021 ·

T he question at full-time that hung over an empty Anfield echoing to the whoops and shrieks of celebrating Chelsea players is whether a home defeat any longer counts as a shock for the team still known as defending champions by convention alone. Currently they are defending nothing of what they won last season - beaten again, for the seventh time in 13 league games, and this the unprecedented fifth in a row at home. A game that was lost to a Thomas Tuchel team that is resurgent under their new German manager, while in the other technical area the greatest German manager that the English game has known seemed to be running out of options. His team looks crushed. They cannot dominate opponents as they did and the goals that once rained in from the Premier League’s most dangerous forward line feel like a faint memory. Sadio Mane missed a first half bouncing ball in front of Chelsea’s goal by such a considerable margin that it was hard to call it a shot. Mohamed Salah was replaced … [Read more...] about Liverpool lose five league games in a row at home for first time as Chelsea climb into top four

I accidentally moved in with a guy I barely knew in lockdown after just four dates – now I’m never flying home

· March 7, 2021 ·

THERE'S no denying that the coronavirus crisis has turned all our worlds upside down - but for Lauren Arris Cartwright, life is basically unrecognisable now. In March last year, the retail worker hopped on a plane from her home in Northern Ireland to visit a guy she'd been casually dating who lived in Manchester. Before the trip, Lauren, 27, had only been on four dates with Dan after they'd been introduced at a friend's wedding. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News , Lauren explained: "When driving to the airport on the Friday, my dad jokingly said 'you better come back on Monday'." However the following week, the UK went into total lockdown - and Lauren and Dan's found they'd accidentally jumped a few steps ahead in their relationship and spent months living in each other's pockets. "It was really hard at first," Lauren said. "All I had with me was just a few bits of clothing, makeup and my toothbrush – it really wasn’t ideal!" Unsurprisingly, Lauren found … [Read more...] about I accidentally moved in with a guy I barely knew in lockdown after just four dates – now I’m never flying home

Austria SUSPENDS jabs with batch of Astra-Zeneca vaccine after one person died and another fell ill after taking the shots

· March 7, 2021 ·

Austria has suspended vaccinations with a batch of AstraZeneca's coronavirus jabs as a precaution following the death of one person and the illness of another after the shots. A 49-year-old woman died as a result of severe coagulation disorders, while another 35-year-old woman developed a pulmonary embolism, an acute lung disease caused by a dislodged blood clot, and is recovering, the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) said. The agency confirmed it had received two reports 'in a temporal connection' with a vaccine from the same batch in the district clinic of Zwettl, Lower Austria. Liverpool back in race for top-four finish with deserved victory over Sheffield United

· February 28, 2021 ·

J urgen Klopp’s crisis is no longer in danger of turning into a drama after a sequence of four Premier League defeats in the past month was ended with a win against Sheffield United. It may have lacked the all-conquering conviction of last season’s many and frequent victories, it may have been against a side who have only won once at home all season, but Klopp will not mind. The bark of triumph he emitted as his team scored their second goal made it clear that, right now, any win will do. His nightmare February is over. It was 20 years to the day since Klopp made his managerial debut with Mainz. In the intervening decades, in which he has won the small matter of a Champions League, Premier League and two Bundesliga titles, rarely can he have been through a sequence as dispiriting as his side’s recent run. And before this game, his mood cannot have been much raised by the fact first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, was absent on compassionate leave after losing his father. In … [Read more...] about Liverpool back in race for top-four finish with deserved victory over Sheffield United
