Only two people have been prosecuted under Australia's foreign fighters laws even though more than 40 ISIS jihadis have returned from overseas war zones. Authorities are reportedly being hampered by a lack of evidence to proceed to prosecution, leaving most of those who fought alongside ISIS in Syria and Iraq in the past five years to walk free back in Australia. Jacinta Carroll, the head of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's Counter Terrorism Policy Centre, said it was difficult to obtain required evidence from terrorist strongholds, The Daily Telegraph reported. Challenges facing Boris Johnson now he has free rein after election landslide
The size of Boris Johnson’s bombshell victory means he has free rein now he is safely back in Downing Street. The nation will wait anxiously to see what sort of premier he will be. Unshackled from needing the support of the Tory hard right, will he be the liberal One Nation Conservative he claims he is? Or will he press on with the strategy created by chief adviser Dominic Cummings, who masterminded the election triumph after guiding Vote Leave towards referendum glory? Can the PM deliver for those traditional Labour supporters who put their faith in him? Will he be able to bridge the country’s chronic North-South chasm for those many Labour voters who went blue in the Midlands and the North? Or will Labour backers who “lent” their vote come to regret their decision if the PM betrays them, as he has so many others? A leader renowned for failing to keep promises has won the trust of millions of ordinary … [Read more...] about Challenges facing Boris Johnson now he has free rein after election landslide

Thousands march in ‘free speech’ protest led by rightwing figures
Thousands marched through London under the banner of free speech on Sunday after Tommy Robinson, a former leader of the far-right English Defence League, was permanently banned from Twitter. Protesters flying national flags and holding placards decrying limits to free expression rallied at Whitehall after marching through central London from Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, a location seen as emblematic of free speech that has been the scene of several recent far-right rallies. Robinson called for the demonstration last week in response to Twitter’s decision to ban him for “hateful conduct” after he posted a message saying: “Islam promotes killing people.” He and several prominent rightwing figures addressed the 2,000-3,000 attendees. Robinson told the crowd: “We couldn’t have done this three years ago, we couldn’t have done this four years ago. We are now mainstream.” Other speakers included the leader of Ukip, Gerard Batten, … [Read more...] about Thousands march in ‘free speech’ protest led by rightwing figures
