Northern Ireland Protocol: Is the DUP’s defiance starting to soften?
Enda McClafferty Published 20 minutes ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Every high-wire act needs a safety net and Stormont is no different. It came in the form of legislation designed to ensure that no matter what happened, the facade of government would survive. All the bases were covered or so officials thought. Russian invasion: Longest battle draws to a close in Mariupol as Ukrainian troops leave steel plant
The long battle in Ukraine’s Mariupol appears to be coming to a close amid efforts to rescue the last of the troops inside the Azovstal steel plant. Hundreds of Ukrainian fighters had held out in the steel plant for months under relentless bombardment in the last bastion of resistance in the devastated city. More than 260 fighters – some of them seriously wounded and taken out on stretchers – left the ruins of the Azovstal plant on Monday and turned themselves over to the Russian side in a deal reached by the two warring parties. Ukrainian authorities said they were working to extract the remaining soldiers from the sprawling steel mill, though how many were still there was unclear. The explosion killed 22 people between the ages of eight and 51, as well as Salman, and injured 139 others. Today in court there were audible gasps as judge Jeremy Baker jailed Abedi for life on each of the 22 counts of murder, with a minimum of 55 years before parole. He told the court: ‘The defendant should clearly understand the minimum term he should serve is 55 years.
