Picture: Archant A pair of Fowlmere hairdressers are to walk from the village to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge dressed as superheroes for a premature baby charity. Amy Johnson-Smith, who owns Aquarius Hair Designs in Manor Farm, and her employee Sian Treadwell are to take on the trek for Bliss – which supports families with babies born premature or sick. All of 29-year-old Sian’s babies were born premature – her daughter is now nine, but sadly her two other children died. She told the Crow: “In 2007, I went into early labour at 23 weeks with my first baby weighing 1lb 8oz. She had two bleeds on the brain. Picture: Archant Firefighters were called to the blaze at about 1.30am on Sunday – two crews from Cambridge, one crew from Gamlingay, and water carriers from Newmarket and Ramsey all attended the scene in a field between Mill Road in Fowlmere and Shepreth Road in Foxton. Archant A tree fire was “deliberately started” in Fowlmere at the weekend, Cambs Fire and Rescue Service have now said. At about 10.45pm on Saturday one crew from Cambridge was called to the blaze in Long Lane. A spokesman said: “The crew arrived to find a large tree on fire. Firefighters used one hose reel and small gear to extinguish the fire, before returning to their station by 12.30am.“The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate. Second World War pilots return to Fowlmere for memorial service

Picture: Leslie Price Archant Second World War American pilots from the 339th Fighter Group returned to their former base in Fowlmere for a memorial service to those who served there. Former P-51 Mustang pilot William MacClarence. Picture: Leslie PriceWilliam Moore and William MacClarence flew P-51 Mustang fighters from Fowlmere during the conflict and returned to South Cambs alongside members of the 339th Fighter Group Association.This included members of three United States Air Force squadrons, the 503rd, 504th and 505th.Moore was shot down by German anti-aircraft in September 1944 and became a prisoner of war.MacClarence survived the war and was credited with destorying eight enemy aircraft.
