FORMER Arsenal ace Sokratis Papastathopoulos doesn't think ex-team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's dismissal from the club was the "correct choice". Aubameyang was frozen out of the squad by manager Mikel Arteta in December after arriving back late in the UK from a trip overseas and was thus stripped of the captain's armband. The striker was then offloaded to Barcelona during the January transfer window after the Gunners cancelled his contract to enable him to sign on a free transfer. The Gabon international has rediscovered his goalscoring prowess at the Nou Camp with a whopping 10 goals and one assist in 14 matches. Meanwhile, Arteta is short of attacking options and the North Londoners recently surrendered fourth place to Premier League rivals Tottenham. Olympiacos star Sokratis doesn't agree with the way the whole situation was handled but is certain his good friend will do well at Barca. Alexandre Lacazette urged to apologise to Arsenal by Gabby Agbonlahor after revealing he could leave Gunners
GABRIEL Agbonlahor has urged Alexandre Lacazette to apologise to Arsenal for claiming he is in talks to join other clubs. The 30-year-old looks set to depart the Emirates in the summer with his contract up at the end of the season. Lacazette has been Arsenal 's main man up top for the majority of this season following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's fallout with Mikel Arteta and subsequent departure. And while his build-up play and work-rate has been praised by fans, he has mustered up just four top-flight goals this term - with two of those strikes coming from the penalty spot. The last time the Frenchman found the back of the net in open play came in the 3-0 win against Southampton on December 11. Despite his lack of threat, and in the middle of Arsenal's three-game losing streak, the player opened up on his future in North London . Arsenal fans fear Arteta could be the next Ozil after new deal – but long-term contract could be GOOD for club this time
WHEN Arsenal confirmed Mikel Arteta’s new deal with Champions League qualification still up in the air, eyebrows were raised. Now they look set to miss out on a top-four finish and nobody is shouting louder about the folly than Piers Morgan, who has been calling for Arteta to be sacked for months. Morgan's knee-jerk reaction to Monday’s defeat at Newcastle struck a chord with many fans who fear they will be lumbered with their boss - as they once were with Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But the Gunners knew what they were doing with the contract announcement 12 days ago - they were showing complete faith in their young manager no matter where the team finishes this season. And by tying Arteta down for three years they have avoided speculation that could undermine plans to overhaul their paper-thin squad this summer. So if the Kroenkes and technical director Edu believe in Arteta, agreeing that new £8.5million-a-year deal was the right thing to do. … [Read more...] about Arsenal fans fear Arteta could be the next Ozil after new deal – but long-term contract could be GOOD for club this time
