Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home

· February 27, 2021 ·

A couple say their Help to Buy dream became a nightmare as they claim to have found 150 problems in their new-build home in two years. Amy Fenn, 24, and fiancé George Watts-Sturrock, 32, bought the £265,000 starter home under the flagship Government scheme. But their joy turned to misery with a seemingly never-ending list of “snags”. The couple claim there was damp and mould, uneven walls and unfinished stairs. They say a sink was wonky, doors were wobbly, worktops damaged, tiling was iffy and drains were blocked with rubble. Then – through sheer bad luck, not down to poor building – there were two floods. In that second, a water tank exploded as horrified Amy and George lay in bed. Amy said: “We heard a huge bang and gushing water and found the tank in our boiler system had literally exploded. It has just been one thing after another.” George, who works in quality assurance, said: “We were so excited to get our first home but it’s been a nightmare.” The detached … [Read more...] about Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home

Myanmar coup: Ambassador to UN fired after making three-fingered salute in support of protests

· February 27, 2021 ·

Myanmar's ambassador to the UN has been fired a day after making a three-fingered salute in support of anti-coup protests - as he called on nations to use "any means necessary" to reverse the military takeover. Kyaw Moe Tun was removed as police arrested hundreds of demonstrators who showed opposition to the coup on 1 February. Myanmar's crisis took a dramatic turn on Friday when the ambassador made a three-fingered salute adopted by the protesters before the UN General Assembly. Mr Tun had called on the world to pressure the military to cede power and said he was speaking on behalf of the ousted civilian government of elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi. He used an emotional speech to urge all countries to issue public statements strongly condemning the coup. Captain Sir Tom Moore: ‘His greatest legacy will be the hope he brought’

· February 27, 2021 ·

As Captain Sir Tom Moore is laid to rest at a small family ceremony in his home county, Sky News' Enda Brady describes his impact on the world. This was the most perfect spring day in Bedfordshire for the final journey of a man who did so much to lift the nation's morale during the first lockdown. Soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment - Captain Sir Tom Moore's home county - received his coffin as his voice rang out on the chart-topping version of You'll Never Walk Alone that he recorded with Michael Ball. That unmistakable Yorkshire accent echoing through a tiny crematorium, with just eight family members present, in keeping with government guidelines. Before the service we were told that Michael Buble had recorded a special version of the song Smile for the funeral. · February 27, 2021 ·

A COUPLE say they have found 150 faults with their new £265,000 Help to Buy home. Amy Fenn, 24, and fiancé George Watts-Sturrock, 32, claim to have had endless issues with their "nightmare" new-build - including damp, mould, uneven walls and even a burst water tank and two floods. The pair bought the detached three-bed property in Norfolk in 2018. It was advertised as being part of "a superb collection of stunning homes" by Suffolk builder Hopkins & Moore. It should have been their dream home, but they say it has been "a nightmare". It started with mould in the first week, and then the pair noticed damp, uneven walls and that the stairs were unfinished. They say there was also a wonky sink, wobbly doors, damaged worktops, dodgy tiling and the drains were blocked with rubble. And then to top if off, the couple experienced two floods - one while they lay in bed. Amy told The Mirror : "We heard a huge bang and gushing water and found the tank in our boiler … [Read more...] about Couple say they’ve found 150 FAULTS with ‘mould and burst tank’ in new £265,000 Help to Buy home
