Uneasy truce as Prince Harry and Meghan keep schtum over bullying report
Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes appear to have called a public truce over a controversial bullying report, after its contents were kept secret from the public . The Palace has blocked details of a report into the handling of bullying allegations made against the Duchess of Sussex in 2018, with its limited findings kept hidden from even those who contributed. In response, the Duke and Duchess will make no public comment on the unresolved allegations, despite previously authorising the strongest of statements defending Meghan. The unusual silence on either side has led to speculation that the Palace and Sussexes, who work closely with their lawyers, are both moving to downplay the long-running dispute . Both sides are understood to be hopeful of drawing a line under the episode. Those involved in the review, said to be around half a dozen one-time members of staff, have so far remained tight-lipped about the details of the Duchess’ alleged behaviour in 2018. 'We will … [Read more...] about Uneasy truce as Prince Harry and Meghan keep schtum over bullying report
Great white sharks gather just miles from New York coast over July 4
A group of great white sharks has gathered just miles from the New York coast over July 4, Ocearch's shark tracker shows. A huge great white called Scot, measuring more than 12 feet long and weighing 1,644 pounds, was tracked roughly 100 miles south of the city on July 3. Scot was first tagged by the ocean research organization in September 2021, when he was found off Ironbound Island in Nova Scotia. Like most North Atlantic sharks, Scot spent the winter in the south, off the Gulf Of Mexico. Scot is not the only great white shark to be tracked in the waters off New York recently. Freya, who measures 11.26 feet and weighs 883 pounds, was tracked swimming close to Hamilton in Madison County, New York, on July 4. In June, Freya was spotted in the shallows three miles from North Carolina's Pea Island . Since then, she has continued to travel north on her annual migration. The population of great whites that includes Scot and Freya spends a large portion of the summer and … [Read more...] about Great white sharks gather just miles from New York coast over July 4
Police fired after racist Meghan Markle meme among “vile” WhatsApp posts
Two police officers in the U.K. have been dismissed over "inexcusable" WhatsApp messages—including one that compared Meghan Markle to a racist toy. PC Sukhdev Jeer and PC Paul Hefford were fired from the Metropolitan Police 's Forensic Services, while allegations were also proven against former PC Richard Hammond. The trio had shared "vile" messages on a WhatsApp group called "But They Promised," including one sent shortly before Meghan and Prince Harry 's May 2018 wedding. The meme was of a "golliwog," a toy that is among the most famous racist caricatures in Britain . It was captioned: "A sneak preview at Meghan's wedding dress." Commander Jon Savell, of Professional Standards at the Metropolitan Police, said in a statement: "These vile messages were shared in 2018 within a closed WhatsApp group between a small group of officers. "I hardly need to say it is completely unacceptable for anyone, let alone a police officer, to behave in such a manner. The actions of … [Read more...] about Police fired after racist Meghan Markle meme among “vile” WhatsApp posts
Anti-Meghan and Harry twitter accounts mistakenly trolled Sussex NHS trust
Anti- Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Twitter -users appear to have mistakenly trolled mental health hospitals located in the area that gives the couple their royal titles, Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Tweets targeted Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, an organisational unit within Britain's National Health Service in the county of Sussex. It has nothing to do with the couple's titles. Some tweets targeted a post about the organization's partnership with mental health texting service Shout, which is backed by Prince William and Kate Middleton . The negative comments tagged Shout's official Twitter account as well as the Sussex Partnership one. One comment on July 4 read: "Anything to do with them two lying scabs from America then it gets blocked now. Corruption attached to all Meghan Markle touches." Another replied with a critical blog post about Meghan and Harry only to be told they were not linked to Sussex Partnership. The account replied: "Yes, I see that … [Read more...] about Anti-Meghan and Harry twitter accounts mistakenly trolled Sussex NHS trust
Prince Charles accused over ‘rot at the palace’ after new charity scandal
Prince Charles' "career would be over" if he was a politician facing the same cash-for-honors scandal that has rocked his charity for almost a year, anti-monarchy campaign group Republic said. Britain's next king has been hit by a new wave of allegations relating to an honorary title he gave a Conservative Party donor who seemingly helped bail out a failing project. It follows recent accusations he accepted €3 million in cash, including €1 million stuffed into a suitcase, from a Qatari politician . There is no suggestion the cash payments were in any way illegal, and they were deposited into the prince's Charitable Fund after due diligence. The former chief executive of Charles' charity The Prince's Foundation also resigned following allegations he offered a Saudi businessman help securing a knighthood and citizenship in exchange for donations. A spokesperson for the prince said at the time that the "Foundation takes very seriously the allegations made in recent news articles … [Read more...] about Prince Charles accused over ‘rot at the palace’ after new charity scandal
High inflation and higher interest rates still to come, banking chief warns
After enduring six months of rising inflation , Americans could feel the pinch even more in the second half (H2) of the year, according to one banking expert who has warned that the country's economic turmoil is about to get even tougher. The annualized rate of inflation recorded its highest jump in May since 1981 as the administration of President Joe Biden faces pressure over how to curb soaring costs, exacerbated by record gas prices being blamed on the Ukraine war . Adding to the bad economic outlook was the news last week that at 20.6 percent, the S&P 500 endured its largest first half decline since 1970. But inflationary pressures are likely to get worse, according to HSBC's global chief strategist Joe Little who said that the era of historically low inflation and interest rates was over. "Any of the tailwinds for investment markets are now becoming headwinds," he told CNBC on Tuesday. "That points to a phase of ongoing market turbulence." The network reported … [Read more...] about High inflation and higher interest rates still to come, banking chief warns
Dead orca wrapped in fishing gear spotted off Oregon in rare entanglement
An orca carcass wrapped in fishing gear has been spotted off the coast of Oregon , triggering a search to recover what may be the first occurrence of a dead killer whale in the state. A fisherman from Salem, Oregon, uploaded a picture of the orca's body wrapped in fishing gear to the website iFish.com, which he estimated to be between 16 and 18 foot long. The orca had a crab pot line wrapped around its tail, and was found around 25 miles out from Newport. "It's a sight I wish I could un-see," the fisherman said in the post. According to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, orcas are most often seen off Depoe Bay and Newport, attracted by the lure of seals and sea lions near the coast. Multiple sightings of the animal have been reported in central coastal Oregon throughout the spring and summer of 2022 so far. The 13 million metric tonnes of plastic pollution that enters the ocean each year is killing a plethora of marine species all around the globe, but it … [Read more...] about Dead orca wrapped in fishing gear spotted off Oregon in rare entanglement
