Britain’s new space force ‘could send RAF fighter jets to edge of space’

· February 21, 2021 ·

BRITAIN's budding new space force could catapult RAF Typhoon fighter jets to the "edge of space" soon to sabotage enemy satellites, senior military sources have said. Specialised training missions will be held for an elite squad of fighter pilots by Space Command, specifically aimed at overthrowing Chinese and Russian military, intelligence and communication satellites during wartime. The specifically selected "Top Gun" pilots will take part in simulated exercises before embarking on training flights, climbing up to 40,00ft on a 20,000ft vertical climb, The Express revealed. During real-life warfare, Typhoon pilots would deploy anti-satellite (ASAT) missiles at 60,000ft before relinquishing to lower heights. The promising plans come just weeks after Former RAF Typhoon pilot, Air Commodore Paul Godfrey OBE, was announced as the head of the UK's new Space Command. The new wing of the Armed Forces, originally announced last November, pledges to "protect and promote … [Read more...] about Britain’s new space force ‘could send RAF fighter jets to edge of space’

Tottenham treated to NFL thriller as Oakland Raiders edge past Chicago Bears

· October 6, 2019 ·

The Raiders might just be regretting their planned move to Las Vegas when they look so at home in London. Josh Jacobs’ diving touchdown with less than two minutes to play gave the silver and black a win that looked to have slipped through their fingers after a dominant first half. The late drama was fitting of a brilliant, chaotic first day of NFL action at the new Tottenham stadium, and capped one of the best games of American Football this country has seen in its still youthful love affair with the sport. The crowd was raucous - deafening at times - and more partisan than London has been used to. Raiders and Bears jerseys outnumbered those of the other 30 teams - an ever present fixture at the UK games. The roar when Oakland cornerback Gareon Conley picked off Chase Daniel, as the Bears quarterback looked to rescue the game, could have come from any home crowd at any NFL stadium stateside. The ferocious Bears defense came out looking jet lagged and never found their feet in the … [Read more...] about Tottenham treated to NFL thriller as Oakland Raiders edge past Chicago Bears

Secrets of Cold War spy and CIA mastermind who bagged advanced Soviet MiG-23 jet

· February 13, 2021 ·

The work of a Cold War spy who masterminded a plot to get the US a Soviet fighter jet was so secretive he had to hide his medals from plain sight. Jim Fees was widely regarded as one of the greatest intelligence officers and lived his life in the shadows like a character from one of John Le Carre’s espionage novels. He joined the CIA in 1957 and worked undercover in Europe, Africa and the Middle East during America’s long tussle with the USSR for influence and supremacy. Now his medals, previously hidden behind a picture at his home, are up for sale. What is your view? Have your say in the comments section One of the spy’s most notable achievements was masterminding the covert acquisition of the most advanced Soviet-designed plane of the time – a MiG-23. The plane, supplied by Egypt, was taken to a US air base in Nevada to train pilots how to defeat the Soviets in aerial combat. This was part of 1977’s Constant Peg programme, much of which is still classified. … [Read more...] about Secrets of Cold War spy and CIA mastermind who bagged advanced Soviet MiG-23 jet
