That’s natural delights, sport, history and lots of fun, says Ruth Brindle Watching the Red Sox baseball team play in their Florida spring training home of Fort Myers was just one of the highlights of a fabulous trip that had also encompassed history and stunning natural beauty, not to mention deep relaxation. I’d seen the Sox play in Boston’s legendary Fenway Park but on a weekend visit to their Fenway South stadium JetBlue Park, it felt really familiar as the iconic Green Monster wall is replicated right down to the vintage-style manual scoreboard. Megan Kearney Fort Myers News-Press Published 4:10 PM EDT Apr 13, 2019 Nothing good happens at 2 a.m., but only in Florida can that also refer to alligators. A Fort Myers family called police after they spotted someone — err, something — breaking and entering early Friday morning. Turns out an alligator meauring about 8 feet long had torn through the family's lanai screen and was camped out on the back porch, according to the Fort Myers Police Department. FMPD officers were dispatched to the home in the Somerset at the Plantation gated community early Friday morning after they received the call. The gator was captured by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and will be relocated, FMPD said.
