Liverpool will travel to Qatar this December to take part in the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup after winning the Champions League last season. The Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in Madrid back in June to be lift the European Cup and to book their place in the annual tournament. As in previous years, the European champions will enter the Club World Cup at the semi-final stage of the competition with the latest edition of the tournament taking place between 11 December and 21 December. Jurgen Klopp's side's semi-final is scheduled to for 18 December, while both the final and third-place play-off take place on 21 December, meaning at least Liverpool's Premier League trip to West Ham United will be rearranged. Liverpool remain in the dark over their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup – leaving Jurgen Klopp unable to plan for the competition. FIFA announced in early June the tournament would take place in Qatar in December, with there having previously been confusion over whether it had been cancelled as the governing body pressed on with plans for their expanded version due to start in 2021. However, it soon emerged Liverpool had not received an official invite from FIFA to take part. And with less than three weeks until the start of the Premier League season, that still remains the case.
