Crime lord Whitey Bulger was "given a death sentence" when he was transferred to the prison he was brutally killed in, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons employees. The notorious gangster was found murdered in his cell the day after he was transferred to Hazleton prison in West Virginia in a suspected mob hit. Hazelton is considered one of the most dangerous federal prisons in the country, which many blame on its understaffing and inmate population. Bulger, who was 89 and in a wheelchair, was beaten to death by fellow inmates, employees told HuffPost. Bulger is believed to have been killed in his cell on Tuesday at around 6am after being moved out of CCTV. But security cameras on the prison wing captured four men entering his cell. Bulger had been incarcerated at Coleman for four years until his transfer to Oklahoma’s Federal Transfer Center on October 23 and his subsequent arrival at Hazelton. … [Read more...] about Whitey Bulger ‘given death sentence’ when sent to US’s ‘most dangerous’ jail

SLAIN mobster Whitey Bulger may have had his eyes gouged and tongue cut out as part of a macabre mafia punishment for being a long-time snitch. Bulger, who was killed yesterday at USP Hazelton, West Virginia, had cut a deal as a FBI informant in 1975 which gave him a free hand to commit crime as long as he informed about the underworld and did not murder. A source told DailyMail.com he had been talking about outing people in the FBI prior to his death. Horrifying details have emerged of how the 89-year-old Irish American gangster was jumped on by a group of prisoners, with one wielding a home-made knife which was used to try to cut his eye balls out. Gouging a victims' eyes and cutting tongues was a trademark signature of the Mafia in the 1930s and 1940s as a symbolic punishment for spying and warning to others thinking about becoming snitches.
