The 737 MAX has been cleared to return to UK airspace nearly two years after it was grounded following deadly crashes . Britain's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced the decision hours after the Boeing aircraft was declared safe by European authorities. The CAA decision, which also means UK airlines can operate passenger flights with the 737 MAX "subject to close oversight" - also follows similar moves by regulators in the US and Canada. Boeing 737 MAX planes can fly again in US following 20-month ban due to two fatal disasters
BOEING has been told that it can fly its 737 MAX jet again, following a 20-month flight ban due to two fatal disasters. The US Federal Aviation Administration said a number of software upgrades and training changes had to be made, before commercial flights were allowed to resume though. The 737 MAX crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia killed 346 people within five months in 2018 and 2019, and triggered a hailstorm of investigations, frayed US leadership in global aviation and cost Boeing around $20 billion. The US planemaker's best-selling jet will resume commercial service in a tough market - the coronavirus pandemic has ruined the travel industry. Families of the Ethiopian crash victims said in a statement on Wednesday that they felt "sheer disappointment and renewed grief" following the FAA's decision to return the aircraft to service. "Our family was broken," Naoise Ryan, whose 39-year-old husband died aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 , said on Tuesday. … [Read more...] about Boeing 737 MAX planes can fly again in US following 20-month ban due to two fatal disasters

Indonesia plane crash: throttle may have been faulty, says report
A malfunctioning automatic throttle may have caused the pilots of a Sriwijaya Air jet to lose control, leading to the Boeing 737-500’s plunge into the Java Sea last month, Indonesian investigators have said. National transportation safety committee investigators said on Wednesday they were still struggling to understand why the jet nosedived into the water minutes after taking off from Jakarta on 9 January, killing all 62 people on board. The investigators issued a preliminary report that provided new details of the pilots’ struggle to fly the plane almost as soon as it became airborne. The lead investigator, Nurcahyo Utomo, said the left engine’s throttle lever moved backwards on its own while autopilot was engaged, reducing the power output of that engine before the jet plunged into the sea. He said pilots of previous flights had reported problems with the automatic throttle system on the 26-year-old jet. The pilots’ last conversation with air traffic control was about … [Read more...] about Indonesia plane crash: throttle may have been faulty, says report
