Nintendo’s "Sports'' series is finally back in motion after 15 years with the new Nintendo Switch Sports. The new sports-themed motion-controlled game tries to build on the success of the 2006 game that pioneered motion controls - the Nintendo Wii hit, Wii Sports. The original Wii Sports was made up of simple sports minigames that demonstrated brand new motion-controlled technology, using the player's movements to correspond with actions in-game. This not only proved fun and hilarious to watch, but it also lowered the entry requirements for more casual gamers causing a huge surge in the popularity of the seventh-generation console it was bundled with. ( Image: Nintendo) Wii Sports only had 5 games, while Wii Resort had 12. Switch Sports sees some new and some returning games to the simple formula with six games: Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton, Tennis, Bowling, and Chambara, with Golf also being added later in Autumn. The graphics are clean looking and colourful but … [Read more...] about Nintendo Switch Sports Review: Motion controlled madness returns in a fun but fleeting sporting title

Honor X8 Review: A Smartphone with an awesome screen and battery life for a phenomenal price
Honor started out as the little brother to Chinese tech giant Huawei, but has become more well established in the west since being independent of Huawei back in 2020. But it isn’t a flagship phone, nor is it trying to be. The X8 is a mid-range/budget smartphone that features a strange blend of advanced and more modest specs. The Honor X8 is a really nice looking device ( Image: Honor) Honor makes some pretty clean and nice-looking devices and the X8 is no exception, at first glance it really doesn't look like a budget phone that dreams of being a flagship. It has a chunky look due to its flat-edge design and rounded corners on all four sides, which I really liked the look of, and that made it feel slightly more premium. The X8 felt a little large in my hand at 163mm x 74.7mm x 7.5mm with most of that taken up by that screen. It’s light at 177g as well as thin, but this is also reflected in its build quality with a glass front, plastic frame and plastic back. While … [Read more...] about Honor X8 Review: A Smartphone with an awesome screen and battery life for a phenomenal price

Wrapped in a duvet with her forehead bloodied, Marianna Vyshemirsky's image was seen around the world. The photo above was taken in the aftermath of a Russian airstrike in Mariupol. It circulated online, on newspaper front pages, and was argued about at the UN Security Council. But, having survived one attack, Marianna faced another onslaught - of disinformation and hate aimed at her and her family. Jamie Oliver vs Boris Johnson: It’s a grudge match
By Peter Henley Published 3 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Chef Jamie Oliver is picking a fight with Boris Johnson over plans to ditch a ban on junk food advertising - and there's an edge to the anger, because this is a grudge match. Fifteen years ago Jamie Oliver ran a TV campaign to force schools to ditch fat-laden treats like Turkey Twizzlers. There was opposition from an unlikely source. A group of school mums in Rotherham took orders for take-away meals from their children. Delay to obesity plan immoral - ex-Tory leader They were pictured on the news delivering the unhealthy pies, burgers and chips through the playground railings. 'Eat what they like' The prime minister, then a lowly Conservative education spokesman, decided to back their cause. What will it take to get inflation under control?
Faisal Islam @faisalislam on Twitter Published 2 hours ago comments Comments Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Today's astronomical rise in inflation is no less shocking, even though it was predicted. UK inflation is simply not supposed to hit levels such as 9%, and the statisticians have had to go back in time to remodel historical data, as inflation has not been this high while the Consumer Prices Index has been in existence. As the Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has said, these sorts of rises hit the poorest the hardest. 9% is an average across the population. The older Retail Prices Index measure is already at 11%. But Mr Bailey's institution has a battle on now to get this under control. The really painful issue is that this rate will sustain and is on course to get higher over the course of this year. And only this week he … [Read more...] about What will it take to get inflation under control?
Tory MP Michael Fabricant condemned over ‘grotesque’ tweet
Published 32 minutes ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Conservative MP Michael Fabricant has been criticised for a tweet relating to the arrest of another MP accused of rape and sexual assault. Tory whips have told the unnamed MP to stay away from Parliament while police carry out their inquiry . On Wednesday, Mr Fabricant tweeted there would be a "strong turnout" of MPs to "prove they are not the one told by the chief whip to stay at home". Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner called the tweet "grotesque". Welsh Secretary Simon Hart also condemned it as "idiotic" and "insensitive", telling BBC Two's Politics Live: "It attempts to make light of a really serious situation, I despair when I read stuff like that." ‘Black eyes flashing’: Lynette Dawson spoke of Chris’ rage, sister says
Australian woman Lynette Dawson told her sister in the weeks before she vanished that her husband Chris was always angry with her and he left a note in their home saying “don’t paint too dark a picture of me to the girls”, a court has heard. Chris Dawson, 73, has pleaded not guilty in the New South Wales Supreme Court to murdering his wife , who vanished from her home at Bayview, on Sydney’s northern beaches, in January 1982. Continuing her evidence on Tuesday, Patricia Jenkins said she spoke to her younger sister Lynette one or two days before Christmas Day 1981, after finding out from their mother that “Chris had left”. It is not disputed by the defence that Dawson and JC, the couple’s babysitter and a former student of the high school teacher, had travelled to Queensland before Christmas “with a view to starting a new life”, but returned a short time later.
