Facebook advertising from Donald Trump's election campaign appears to be spreading a manipulated image of political rival Joe Biden. As the president continues to fixate on his opponent's health, an active ad on the social network launched yesterday that used a picture of the candidate edited to make him look older, with his skin appearing unhealthier and showing darker blemishes. The ad appears to be focused on data-collection, urging Facebook users to fill out a poll claiming the "fake news media will never report accurately on his [Trump's] standings in the polls against Sleepy Joe," using a frequent nickname for his opponent. The Trump campaign told The Huffington Post that it had applied a filter to the picture of Biden but declined to say why. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is being sued by the US District of Columbia which is seeking to hold him personally liable for the Cambridge Analytica scandal that breached millions of people's personal data. The political consultancy was accused in 2018 of illegally harvesting the personal data of as many as 87 million Facebook users. The data was alleged to have been used to manipulate the 2016 US presidential election. D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine filed a civil lawsuit against Mr Zuckerberg in the D.C. Superior Court. He is seeking damages and penalties from Mr Zuckerberg . The lawsuit maintains that Mr Zuckerberg directly participated in important company decisions and was aware of the potential dangers of sharing users' data, such as occurred in the case involving data-mining firm Cambridge Analytica. A former Downing Street official at the heart of the “partygate” scandal is set to be the next British ambassador in Saudi Arabia, The Telegraph understands. Martin Reynolds, who earned the nickname “Party Marty" for his role in organising a gathering during lockdown , is believed to be the frontrunner for the role. As Boris Johnson's principal private secretary, he was responsible for running the Prime Minister’s office. He took up the role in 2019, but he left earlier this year amid a public backlash to allegations of rule-breaking parties. Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine has sued Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for allegedly failing to protect consumer data following the Cambridge Analytica data leak. “The evidence shows Mr. Zuckerberg was personally involved in Facebook’s failure to protect the privacy and data of its users leading directly to the Cambridge Analytica incident," Racine said in a statement about the lawsuit released Monday. "This unprecedented security breach exposed tens of millions of Americans’ personal information, and Mr. Zuckerberg’s policies enabled a multi-year effort to mislead users about the extent of Facebook's wrongful conduct. As President Donald Trump appears to mock Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden over his age, polling has also shown voters to be concerned over this issue. The president shared a photoshopped image of Biden on Twitter on Tuesday, with the former vice president in a retirement home and the phrase "Biden for Resident" underneath . Trump, 74, has long made such jibes about Biden— questioning his cognitive abilities and nicknaming him "Sleepy Joe." His campaign has also used edited photos of Biden in Facebook advertisements in the past, with filters appearing to be used to make the Democrat look older. Trump has also suggested his rival has dementia in barbs at the former vice president , while the pair have continued to trade blows on social media.
