Hundreds of British tourists have reportedly fled a luxury ski resort in Switzerland after being forced to quarantine due to fears about a new, more contagious strain of Covid-19. Following the discovery of the coronavirus variant in England, Swiss authorities announced that all the people who arrived from the UK since December 14 would have to self-isolate for 10 days from their date of arrival. They also banned new arrivals from the UK from December 20 onwards. On December 23, Swiss authorities brought in an exemption allowing flights to and from the UK from Christmas Eve to enable residents to return to their homes for the festive period. In the alpine village of Verbier, officials managed to track down 420 visitors from the UK, who were told go into quarantine. A Disneyland resort is to be transformed into a mass coronavirus vaccination site. Disneyland's sprawling resort will be used to vaccinate thousands in Orange County, California - according to the state's health officials. In a statement, they said the site wold be one of five large "point-of-dispensing' vaccine sites. Supervisor Doug Chaffee, whose district covers Disneyland, said large-scale vaccination sites are “absolutely critical in stopping this deadly virus.” Jabs at the vaccine site as expected to given as early as this week - with those eligible first being healthcare workers and those in long-term care facilities. California has seen more than 30,000 deaths from coronavirus and almost 2.8 million cases. A tornado has struck a coastal resort in Turkey injuring 16 people and causing widespread destruction. The violent storm hit the town of Cesme, some 56 miles (90km) west of the city of Izmir, late on Thursday. It flipped over cars, tore up trees, ripped off roof tiles and toppled a crane. At least four boats capsized. The worst-hit area was a building site for summer homes where the crane was brought down and a container housing the construction workers overturned. "Cesme, a paradise on earth, experienced hell last night," Anadolu quoted the town's mayor, Ekrem Oran, as saying.
