Top 10 most tweeted football clubs in 2019 – plus most popular sporting events and matches
The annual report of what got the UK tweeting is out - and sport features heavily in the most talked about events of 2019. This is no surprise after a fantastic year which saw England clinch the Cricket World Cup on home soil and reach the Rugby World Cup final, while Liverpool triumphed in the Champions League. The report shows Piers Morgan topped the list of having the most people tweet at his Twitter handle - partly no doubt due to his outspoken Arsenal criticisms and arguments with Spurs fan Lord Sugar. Football presenter Gary Lineker came in fifth. The Leicester City fan often wades in on VAR discussions and provokes outrage when he tweets the Match of the Day running order each week. #mufc was the third most Tweeted hashtag of 2019 and #lfc was fifth, while the Champions League was the third most Tweeted show behind Love Island and Game of Thrones. WWE's Monday Night Raw and Smackdown also both featured in the top 10 Tweeted shows. But which tournaments and events caused … [Read more...] about Top 10 most tweeted football clubs in 2019 – plus most popular sporting events and matches
Cannes 2017: Ruben Östlund wins Palme d’Or for The Square
The art-world satire The Square has won the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes film festival. Directed by Ruben Östlund, The Square is about a museum director (played by Claes Bang) who is desperate to make a success of his gallery, and stages a new installation called “The Square” to promote it. The Square was well received after its debut on 19 May, earning a string of glowing reviews. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw gave it four stars, saying it created “some gobsmackingly weird and outrageous spectacle, with moments of pure showstopping freakiness”. Swedish director Östlund is best known for his previous film, Force Majeure, which also addressed the toxic nature of middle-class guilt. The film also starred Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss and The Wire’s Dominic West, as well as an already-celebrated appearance from animal-movement expert Terry Notary, as a performance artist who impersonates an ape. The Square’s victory somewhat … [Read more...] about Cannes 2017: Ruben Östlund wins Palme d’Or for The Square
