The last 10 years have seen unprecedented growth in the contribution of wind power to the UK's energy needs. Thousands of wind turbines have been erected both onshore and offshore, on sites that have been heralded as the bedrock of the UK's bid to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Politicians see wind power as so important, Boris Johnson has pledged the UK will become the Saudi Arabia of wind, a reference to oil production giant. But, how do the government's plans stack up? Is the UK really going to be the largest wind energy producer on the planet? The growth in wind turbines In the last 20 years, the contribution of wind power to the UK's energy needs has gone from around 320MW (in 2001) to more than 24GW (in 2021) - a 73-fold increase. One in five doses being jabbed around the world is made in India. The country is also the largest exporter of COVID-19 vaccines to the rest of the world. Yet, when it comes to inoculating its own people against coronavirus , the South Asian nation has barely covered a tenth of its population, and is now seeing a record number of new deaths every day . There are fears over whether India's demand for vaccines to tackle the pandemic might impact other, often lower-income countries in their fights against COVID-19 . Why? About 30% of doses that are exported to other countries are produced in India, Sky News analysis of data from the science analytics company Airfinity shows. The rest of the doses will be supplied by 16 countries, including the UK . The country is expected to supply 2% of global demand. … [Read more...] about COVID-19: India’s vaccine export ban could send shockwaves worldwide. Should the UK step in to help?
BOB ARUM has claimed Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury's site deal to fight in Saudi Arabia is a 'mirage' which could lead to talks with Deontay Wilder. The heavyweight superstars are still in negotiations for an undisputed title decider in the summer , which was first signed in March. Eddie Hearn revealed both champions had agreed a site deal , believed to be Saudi Arabia, with three weekend spots to choose from. But Fury's US promoter Arum has now thrown doubt over Saudi deal and unification super-fight altogether. He told The Ring : “If I had to bet whether the Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua fight would happen or not, I would say no." Negotiations between Fury, 32, and Joshua, 31, all came as Wilder, 35, took his right to redemption with the Gypsy King to court. The American was dethroned of the WBC belt in February 2020 but already had an immediate rematch included in the contract. But Fury's side argued that expired in October, allowing him to enter … [Read more...] about Anthony Joshua fight with Tyson Fury in further doubt with Saudi site deal ‘mirage’ and Deontay Wilder talks to begin
TYSON FURY'S undisputed blockbuster fight against Anthony Joshua is 'dead in the water'. That's according to the Gypsy King's American promoter Bob Arum. Both fighters had signed their deals for the £108million heavyweight showdown. It was then a case of sorting a date and venue - with Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn recently claiming it was a 'done deal' and disputing Arum's earlier claims of problems . A July or August fight in Saudi Arabia was believed to be the chosen way forward. But now Arum, speaking to The Telegraph , says the fight between the pair this year is OFF - and says both boxers should take on other opponents first. The 89-year-old said: "It will take months for the Saudis to do their due diligence on such a huge deal. "It is not just a site fee, there are ancillary demands from the Saudis stretching into the broadcast deals and other things, it could take months for it all to play out. "It could even take until 2022 the way it looks right … [Read more...] about Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua ‘dead in the water’ claims Bob Arum despite Eddie Hearn claiming fight was ‘done deal’
