According to Esquerre, it would be "a very significant evolutionary event" if further research confirms the current data on the issue. … [Read more...] about Nature vs Science: S American Lizards Break ‘Golden Rule’ of Evolution – Reports

Many people still reject Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution
TODAY IS Darwin Day, a date when people are invited to celebrate the achievements of a British biologist who provided modern science with one of its guiding axioms: the principle that all species of life evolved through a process of natural selection over many millions of years. In the view of the overwhelming majority of scientists, the ideas of Charles Darwin (1809-1882) have been established and indeed reaffirmed by all subsequent investigations into the nature of life. And, at least in all liberal democracies, children are generally taught by their science teachers to understand the emergence of life through a Darwinian lens. Still, there have always been substantial minorities who, whether on religious or other grounds, refuse to accept the Englishman’s ideas. Take the United States, long seen as a stronghold of ideas that challenge Darwin head-on (by insisting that the Biblical account of a six-day creation is literally true) or in a more indirect way by insisting that the … [Read more...] about Many people still reject Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution
Lisa Page reveals FBI had no evidence of collusion for ‘Russiagate’ probe
By the time special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed, the FBI had found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 US presidential election, according to agency lawyer Lisa Page. Page told lawmakers that in May 2017, after a nine-month FBI investigation, and as Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ‘Russiagate’ investigation was kicking off, the agency still had no idea whether Donald Trump’s presidential campaign actually colluded with Russia. As far as May 2017, we still couldn't answer the question (of collusion) Page told Republican Representative John Ratcliffe during the closed-door hearing in July, according to documents reviewed by Fox News and reported on Sunday. Ratcliffe grilled Page over text messages she exchanged with since-fired FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was leading the agency’s investigation into Trump’s alleged collusion at the time. In the messages, Strzok debated joining Mueller’s … [Read more...] about Lisa Page reveals FBI had no evidence of collusion for ‘Russiagate’ probe
Evolution, not revolution key, says new Spain boss Enrique
New Spain coach Luis Enrique said Thursday no revolution would be needed as he promised fans to restore the 2010 world champions into a force to be feared. Spain went into the 2018 World Cup as one of the favourites but coach Julen Lopetegui was fired on the eve of the tournament after agreeing terms with Real Madrid. His replacement Fernando Hierro, in his first major coaching role, could only drive his multi-talented charges to a last-16 penalty shoot-out defeat to hosts Russia. "There will be no revolution," promised the former Barcelona boss. "It's a word I don't like too much. "But we do need a certain level of evolution and changes need to be made." "We shall continue in our own style, there is no doubt about that," said the 48-year-old. "But we need to defend better and concede fewer goals. We need to play with more depth and creat more goalscoring chances." The new coach said Spain had also suffered from their own success as other teams became aware of their style of play and … [Read more...] about Evolution, not revolution key, says new Spain boss Enrique
Scientists claim to find earliest evidence of human presence outside Africa
Scientist claim to have found the earliest evidence of human presence outside Africa. Researchers have found ancient tools in China which they believe may indicate primitive humans were in the area as early as 2.12million years ago. These tools are around 270,000 years older than the bones and stone tools found in Dmanisi, Georgia. The research was carried out a by Chinese - British team and their findings have been published in the scientific journal, Nature. The finding was made at Shangchen on a plateau in northern China, reports the BBC . The artefacts are different stone tools which all show signs of being used. Many were made out of quartzite and quartz rock which probably came from the Qinling Mountains, which are about five to 10km away from where they were discovered. However, it is not known which human species made them. People living outside Africa can trace their origins to a departure around 60,000 years ago. This evidence is so important as the earliest indication of … [Read more...] about Scientists claim to find earliest evidence of human presence outside Africa
