After almost three weeks out of action, Manchester City look to move one step closer to being crowned Premier League champions when they visit Everton on Saturday. It seems like a lifetime ago that David Silva’s brace saw City register a comfortable 2-0 win at Stoke on March 12 but with most players in international action over the last week, there should be no sign of rustiness. The Toffees were the only side to deny Pep Guardiola three Premier League points before Christmas and are still the only team not to leave the Etihad empty-handed, after August’s 1-1 draw which saw Kyle Walker and Morgan Schneiderlin sent off. City will move within touching distance of the title with a win while Everton still have hopes of a seventh-placed finish and the chance of European football next year, so both sides will be chasing all three points. MANCHESTER City have averaged nearly 10,000 empty seats for Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium this season - despite official attendances claiming it's virtually full. Sun Online can reveal how Premier League crowds are often a far cry from those published by clubs boasting supposedly bumper attendances. City's ground has been mocked as the 'Emptyhad' by rival fans - but official figures suggest the 55,097-capacity stadium has enjoyed crowds of almost 54,000 this season. However, crowd safety figures collected by police and obtained by Sun Online show the average attendance has actually been closer to 46,000. November's 2-1 home win against Southampton saw an official attendance of 53,407 when in reality only 38,130 fans attended the game. Home games against Burnley, Tottenham, Bournemouth and Watford also drew gates of less than 46,000 despite the official crowds being announced as around 54,000. As of January 18 - when Sun Online lodged a freedom of information request to … [Read more...] about Manchester City average nearly 10,000 empty seats for Premier League games at Etihad Stadium – despite official attendances claiming it’s virtually full
This is now a defining time of the season. We've had a couple of weeks without a game and now within a seven-day period it will be bang, bang, bang. Make no secret about it, if we were to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League it keeps the season going and that focus on a trophy. If I was the manager I think I would take one game at a time. I wouldn't pre-plan anything and just see how we go. You go as strong as you possibly can at Crystal Palace and take it from there. If we do well and come through what will be a difficult challenge with flying colours then I'd just carry on with that same team. With a lot of the players having come back from internationals, you want them to get back into playing club football. I think it's important that they have a game that is slightly different than the internationals. I'm not too sure as where the modern day history between Liverpool and Crystal Palace has come from and whether it was that 3-3 game when we nearly won the league. Of … [Read more...] about Liverpool can’t think of Manchester City, they must go full strength at Palace
