Thursday evening music treats are back in Thame after a summer of fabulous festivals around the region. The First Thursday Music Club gets underway at The Stables, at the James Figg Pub on September 6, with two great acts and the popular open mic session.After a break following the hugely successful Thame Town Music Festival, The First Thursday Music Club returns with a double bill of fantastic talent.Following a busy summer where they played Truck Festival and Stivvy Fest, Alphabet Backwards, the Oxford based indie/electro pop band, are appearing.Straight after them, the magnificent Matt Edwards, together with his All Star, band will be raising the volume with some down and dirty blues and blues/rock. In addition, Alan Pettifer and Fergus Smith are already signed up to play. This open-air classical concert in the heart of the city, will feature a string ensemble led by Marcelline Agius, under the direction of Gozitan conductor Colin Attard. They said that the chosen repertoire chosen is very entertaining and also rather appropriate for the open-air surroundings on what promises to be a perfect summer’s evening musical experience. Two of the most loved serenades, Mozart´s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Elgar´s Serenade for Strings, will be among the classical works being performed. Works by local composers Joseph Vella, Carmelo Pace and up-and-coming Pierre Louis Attard will also be presented. A Little Night Music is being performed this Saturday, the 25th of August, starting at 8:00pm. It is presented by the Gozo Cultural Council and entrance is free of charge. This is despite a request from police inspector Mark Newey the event finish in the early evening.Last year, under threat of prosecution, organisers pulled the plug on the evening music at the last minute, having reached an impasse over negotiations with police.The argument revolves around whether the festival requires a music licence. Festival organisers argue it is exempt and referred to a decision made in 2014 when police also claimed a licence was needed. The festival said it operates under a charter as a philanthropic voluntary organisation, and under section 20 of the Music and Dancing Act 1961 has not required a music and dancing licence. The Attorney General’s office agreed. Picture: GREATER ANGLIA Archant Live music has launched on some train journeys in our region, have your say on what you would like to hear on your commute by taking part in our poll. Commuters travelling through the Essex countryside will notice something different about their journey this evening, August 3. The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership has teamed up with train operator Greater Anglia to host special evening music trains.Live music will take place on board trains from Marks Tey to Sudbury and back again at 6.08pm, 6.37pm, 7.14pm, 7.38pm, 8.05pm and 8.32pm. Oscar and Luca Ryland and vocalist Effie Lawrence will be providing pop and instrumental entertainment to passengers aboard these trains. Party In The Park on Friday July 27 rounds off a week of fun activity in the Polegrove in advance of Bexhill Carnival on Saturday July 28. The event begins at 7pm and is sold out but those with tickets are welcome to bring along their own picnic (no glass bottles) and chairs to the Polegrove to see the live bands perform. They will enjoy The US Drifters, a Stevie Wonder tribute, and local band 1066 Rockitmen who will entertain during the evening before the grand finale fireworks at 10pm.
