TUI Airways has topped a “league of shame” of UK-based airlines failing to pay out flight delay compensation. Research obtained by The Sun on Sunday has found the carrier settled just 29 per cent of claims without the need for a court case. Passengers delayed by over three hours or who have their flight cancelled can claim compensation of £110 to £530 under EU laws. Other companies included in the list of offenders included a number of the UK’s biggest airlines. Figures showed budget carrier easyJet settled claims with passengers without the need for court proceedings on just 55% of occasions - while Virgin Atlantic paid out when first contacted in just 56% of cases. Compensation law firm Bott and Co said Tui was notorious for denying or ignoring pre-litigation claims. Passengers were forced to have to go to court 70% of the time in order to get the compensation they were entitled to. Eu law flight delays
Europe's worst countries for flight delays and cancellations have been revealed, and the UK features high on the list as it takes second place, with Germany topping the list. Over 175,000 departing flights in the UK have been delayed or cancelled so far in 2018, marking a whopping 86 per cent increase compared to 2017. In fact, one in four outbound flights in the UK has been disrupted, according to a new study by AirHelp. But it's not just the UK which has taken a hit, as the research revealed that 2018 has seen the worst European fight disruptions on record. There have been a number of factors including a series of cabin crew strikes which took place across Europe in September, as unions representing the staff of various airlines called for industrial action. Not to mention the volatile weather, most recently including Storm Callum which wreaked havoc on holidaymakers' travel plans. Under current EU regulations, passengers may be entitled to compensation of up to €600 per … [Read more...] about UK is high on the list as Europe’s worst countries for flight delays revealed
Ryanair has cancelled 150 flights scheduled for Friday due to cabin crew strikes. The airline has said all customers whose journeys have been axed received e-mails and texts on September 25. Holidaymakers may see their trips thrown into doubt by strikes from cabin crew across Spain, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, Italy and Germany after a failure to reach an agreement during negotiations with unions. Ryanair claims to have reached out to these unions to try and negotiate agreements similar to those it is negotiating with pilot and/or cabin crew in Ireland, the UK, Italy and Germany. However, the airline is refusing to pay compensation for those who are affected by the cancelled flights. Ryanair claims it doesn't owe compensation as strikes were beyond the airline's control. A spokesperson for Ryanair told the ECHO: "Under EU261 legislation, no compensation is payable to customers when the (strike) delay/cancellation is beyond the airline’s control. "If these strikes, by a tiny … [Read more...] about Your rights after Ryanair REFUSES to pay compensation for its cancelled flights

Holidaymakers could be owed as much as £76 million pounds (€85m euros) in flight compensation collectively, after a travel of summer misery from the likes of Ryanair, easyJet and KLM. Flight rights firm AirHelp said 240,000 passengers were impacted by flight delays or cancellations following this summer’s airline travel chaos representing a staggering 62% increase on last season when around 150,000 passengers were affected. "The 2018 summer of strikes has brought misery and chaos to thousands of UK passengers and thrown their holiday plans into disarray," explained Henrik Zillmer, chief executive at AirHelp. "As a result of this and in line with the law, airlines must compensate travellers for flight disruptions. It is crystal clear that air passengers feel powerless against airlines and many miss out on the compensation they are owed by not filing a claim. If airlines will not play their part to inform and educate their passengers, we will."
