The sincerity of Ethan Hawke isn't exclusive to his performances. Sitting in a London hotel on a Friday morning, the actor's outlook matches the weather outside: warm and inviting - perhaps no surprise considering this is an actor whose past credits include - sure, films where he plays characters of intense depth - but primarily affable roles ensconced in reality. Hawke can add another performance to that list with new film Maudie, a biographical tale centred on artist Maud Lewis played by Sally Hawkins. Hawke plays her husband, Everett - a role he accepted due to his fondness of the shoot's location of Canadian island, Newfoundland. The film, which has scored rave reviews since its premiere during last year's festival season, is in UK cinemas today. Conversation with Hawke naturally flowed to his working relationship with Boyhood filmmaker Richard Linklater. It swiftly emerged the actor was comfortable sharing his personal views on Jesse and Celine … [Read more...] about Ethan Hawke interview: ‘I have a lot of hope for Jesse and Celine’
Scarlett Johansson made headlines this week for coming out and saying she doesn't believe monogamy is "natural." "I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it's a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing," the 32-year-old actress told Playboy. "I don't think it's natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it's work. It's a lot of work, and the fact that it is such work for so many people—for everyone—the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing." She continued, "It's something I have a lot of respect for and have participated in, but I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond." And she's not alone. Here are seven more celebs who have explained why they don't believe in monogamy either: Shailene Woodley: In an interview with Elle magazine in 2014, the Divergent star admitted she doesn't believe monogamy is incorporated into our chemical makeup as humans. Director Ti West has built a loyal fan base over the last decade by making unique horror movies like "The House of the Devil" and "The Innkeepers" that appeal to horror fanatics while challenging them with unconventional stories that delve into internal fears, rather than going for over-the-top gore. With his latest movie “In a Valley of Violence” (opening Friday), West veers further from his horror roots. The Western follows a man (Ethan Hawke) who arrives in a town and instantly becomes a threat to the local marshal (John Travolta) and his annoying son (James Ransone of "The Wire"). There are certainly thrills (and blood) but the movie also shows West’s comedic talent and ability to work with a bigger production (the movie was produced by Blumhouse Productions, which is behind the “Insidious” and “Paranormal Activity” franchises) and bigger stars. Business Insider sat down with West, Hawke, and Ransone in New York City to talk about the … [Read more...] about Ethan Hawke interview on the problem plaguing Hollywood

There seems to be some truth to the old adage that hindsight is 20/20. In the newest issue of Elle magazine, Ethan Hawke waxed poetic about his marriage to Uma Thurman and his regrets about tying the knot back in 1998. "Success when you're young is really overwhelming," he told the mag. "The world felt out of control. And I wanted to stop it from spinning so fast. I thought marriage would decrease my variables or something. I was absolutely wrong." NEWS: Ethan Hawke to star in upcoming redition of Macbeth The actor blamed his age, and emotional immaturity, when it came to saying "I do" to the blond beauty. "There was this discovery that the male brain isn't done until 28. I definitely think my frontal lobe was not finished," he admitted. "I had no business taking vows that would last more than two weeks." And seeing as though he was 27-years-old, he only had one year to go before he could make a more sound decision (in his eyes). NEWS: Uma shows off her post-baby body—check … [Read more...] about Ethan Hawke Talks Uma Thurman Marriage: “I Had No Business Taking Vows”

It looks like someone's got themselves a famous fan! Ethan Hawke revealed that he's "obsessed" with none other than Nicolas Cage. "He's the only actor since Marlon Brando that's actually done anything new with the art of acting," he said while taking questions on Reddit. "He's successfully taken us away from an obsession with naturalism into a kind of presentation style of acting that I imagine was popular with the old troubadours." And the actor's praise didn't stop there. "If I could erase his bottom half bad movies, and only keep his top half movies, he would blow everyone else out of the water." To work with Philip Seymour Hoffman must have been to love him. The parade of friends, family and fellow actors paying their respects continued Tuesday at the New York City home of Hoffman's longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell, with whom he had three children. Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman's daughter Maya has a very good reason why she's gone into modeling. The 18-year-old beauty recently made her debut in a video for British clothing line AllSaints. "She did that modeling gig so that she didn't have to ask me for spending money," Hawke, 45, told me with a laugh while promoting his new action western The Magnificent Seven (in theaters Sept. 23) at the Toronto International Film Festival. The artsy video features Maya running through fields and swimming in a country lake. Maya recently started her freshman year at the Juilliard School, the prestigious performing arts college in New York City.
