The UK will discuss with the EU the bloc's proposals to create a vaccine passport that could allow people to travel more freely in time for the summer holidays. The EU-wide "digital green pass" would provide proof a person has been vaccinated, as well as test results for those not yet inoculated and information on recovery for people who have had COVID-19 . European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the proposals for the pass, which will "respect data protection, security and privacy", will be set out this month. Woman ‘stopped by police’ for travelling 2 miles to queue for coffee with friend

· March 1, 2021 ·

A woman claims she was handcuffed by police for travelling two miles to queue for a coffee with a friend and her son. The woman, who is seen in a clip surrounded by officers, says she travelled within London to meet a friend while socially distancing and wearing a mask. A clip of the incident shows the woman arguing why her actions were "reasonable" as police appear to explain lockdown rules to her. She tells officers she lives in Battersea, south west London, and had joined a friend and her son for a socially distanced walk. She explains: "It's not a crime to stand in a street. "I'm social distancing - when I go in the shop, I had a mask. "We've come from two miles away - two miles away." However an officer responds saying: "We've explained it to you - it's not legal to come from Battersea." - before the woman continues: "Two miles away. It's just the other side of the river." The woman tells cops: "Why don't you go and arrest people for knife crime?" The woman … [Read more...] about Woman ‘stopped by police’ for travelling 2 miles to queue for coffee with friend

Economy passengers can now book an entire row to themselves for £78 with Emirates

· March 1, 2021 ·

ECONOMY travellers on Emirates flights can now buy entire rows to avoid other passengers. The new booking system will allow passengers to buy up to three empty seats on their flights, starting from £39. However, these can't be booked online when buying plane tickets, as they will only be offered at the airport check-out counter due ot availability. They will cost between $55 (£39) and $165 (£117) per empty seat, plus taxes. The airline said it could be used by couples who want an entire row to themselves by booking out the extra seat next to them, or parents travelling with young children who want more space. It is expected to be a popular choice especially due to the pandemic where travellers may want more social distancing onboard. Economy seats have a range of options include extra legroom seats and twin seats which are found on the upper deck. They are also offering up to 60 per cent off baggage costs right now, which must be pre-booked. ‘Human skull’ found in woodland as police cordon off area near abandoned pub

· March 1, 2021 ·

Suspected human remains have been found in a woodland near an abandoned pub in Bolton. A couple who run a paranormal investigation Youtube channel said they called police after discovering a 'human skull' while filming. Officers have cordoned off the area, with tests and forensic analysis being carried out to identify the remains. It is not believed that this incident is linked to any ongoing investigations, police said. Two eyewitnesses say officers were called to the building, just off Blackburn Road, near Egerton Park, at around 12.20am, the Manchester Evening News reports. Danny and Felicity Duffy have spoken of their shock after discovering what they claim was a human skull. An army style jacket was also found close to the remains, they said. Lockdown roadmap should be sped up if things are going well, top expert declares

· February 28, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown in England should be sped up if things are going well, a top expert claimed today. The Prime Minister has ruled out bringing forward the dates of his four-stage roadmap which pledges to lift all lockdown rules by June 21 at the earliest. But he should change his mind if the vaccine rollout curbs the virus faster than expected, said Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. The independent think tank is a leading authority on the Budget which will be announced next week. IFS boss Mr Johnson told Sky News' Sophy Ridge on Sunday: "I think it’s very clear that if things move more quickly, more positively than expected, if we have a very high fraction of people vaccinated and very low levels of infection, then yes it should be sped up. "There’s no need to stick to a date if things go better than expected. "Every month, every week of additional lockdown is costing not just the economy, it’s costing so many people so much … [Read more...] about Lockdown roadmap should be sped up if things are going well, top expert declares
