Sales at the iPhone giant rose 11% to a record $123.9bn (£92.6bn) in the October to December period, beating forecasts. I’m a tech expert – these iPhone and Android mistakes you’re making could cost you hundreds

July 4, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

SCAM-BUSTERS have flagged the key mistakes that Brits are making that expose them to cyber crooks – potentially costing them hundreds of pounds. Research published Tuesday by fraud-fighting outfit Rightly revealed that almost half of Brits have either fallen victim to an online scam or come close. The survey filled out by 2,000 adults across the UK found that over a third (37 per cent) of those people lost money as a result. A lack of awareness appears to be to blame, with Brits failing to take basic security steps, leaving them exposed to scams. For instance, less than a third of those surveyed regularly change their passwords , while only 45 per cent are wary of free Wi-Fi spots in hotels and airports – a common hunting ground for scammers. Speaking to The Sun, Rightly CEO James Walker said that online scams are a huge problem that isn't talked about enough. May 26, 2022 by metro.co.uk

US lawmakers are urging Google to ‘stop unnecessarily collecting’ customer location data that can be used to identify people who’ve had abortions. On Wednesday, 42 US Democrats signed an open letter to Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, cautioning him against the company’s advertising-focused digital infrastructure possibly being weaponised against women . ‘In a world in which abortion could be made illegal, Google’s current practice of collecting and retaining extensive records of cell phone location data will allow it to become a tool for far-right extremists looking to crack down on people seeking reproductive health care,’ said the letter . While Google insists on a warrant before disclosing location data to law enforcement, if abortion is made illegal by the Supreme Court , prosecutors can obtain legal warrants to ‘hunt down, prosecute and jail women’ for seeking abortions. The lawmakers pointed out that Google often shares its trove of historical location information of … [Read more...] about Warning over Google location data being weaponised to target US women seeking abortions
