England maintained their Guinness Six Nations Grand Slam hopes and set up a potential Championship decider with Wales in a fortnight with a commanding 44-8 defeat of France . Jonny May, scorer of England's opening try against Ireland in Dublin in less than two minutes, took just 66 seconds to cross the whitewash at Twickenham. That was the first of a 29-minute hat-trick that left France reeling and contributed to England's biggest win over Les Bleus in 108 years. Henry Slade and Owen Farrell - who finished the game with 17 points - also scored tries for England while coach Eddie Jones was able to hand Dan Robson a Test debut. Here is how we rated the England players... Elliot Daly 8 Sublime break and chip for May’s first try after a minute set the tone for rout. Chris Ashton 7 Nearly day for England’s other wing. Assisted May’s third and denied one himself by penalty try award. Henry Slade 7 Two tries in Ireland, another here. Part of a razor-sharp backline. … [Read more...] about England player ratings from Six Nations win over France at Twickenham

England slumped to a second Test defeat in the West Indies, losing by 10 wickets in Antigua, as the hosts wrapped up a famous series victory. Who impressed and who did not on both sides? England Rory Burns - Such a waste, after all that hard work in seeing off the opening pair, to try and cut a ball so close. Signs that he finds it difficult to adjust from heart-pumping pace to slower bowlers. 5 Joe Denly - Would have been out for a pair but for an umpire’s call and dropped catch. His shot-selection looks too loose but after seven and 17 probably deserves one more chance. 4 Jonny Bairstow - Fine 50 but too vulnerable to the ball nipping back to be a consistent number three. Kept wicket soundly... A resurgent England upset Six Nations champions Ireland, handing Joe Schmidt a first ever home defeat in the championship. England made a sensational start and rarely looked back, stunning the hosts with a fine Jonny May try after just 90 seconds before brushing off a reply from Cian Healy to force a raft of errors, one of them gifting Elliot Daly a second try. Johnny Sexton cut the deficit back to four points in the second half but the mistakes kept coming for Ireland as their more ruthless opponents went for the jugular 14 minutes from time with Henry Slade touching down a perfectly weighted May kick. Slade intercepted a Sexton pass for his second try to end Irish dreams of back-to-back grand slams at the first hurdle with a thud that a John Cooney consolation try did little to dampen. Here, we rate the players on both sides... Ireland Robbie Henshaw – 5. Struggled with his positional play in first Test start at full-back since his debut in 2013 Keith Earls - 6. England lost the first Test against the West Indies in humiliating fashion, going down by a huge 381-run margin. Who impressed and who did not on both sides? England Rory Burns - He can be inked in for the Ashes. He coped ably against spin in Sri Lanka, and ably against pace in his 84 - until, ironically, spin came on. 7 Keaton Jennings - He cannot be risked in the Ashes. He does not transfer his weight and head into his off-drives and therefore keeps nicking off. 3 Jonny Bairstow - Signs that number three might be too high for someone who likes to play forward. Dismissed both times by back-of-a-length bounce. 5 Joe Root - The selection mistake must have nagged at him from the first morning....
